By playing Worrall at RWB you are sacrificing his game for the sake of the team. It was OK in the short term last season but you need a system that plays to your strengths, and Worrall is one of our key creative and attacking players.

I think long term he will earmark Gibbo or Cass for that role BUT then if he plays the same system where will wozza go,maybe when a new winger comes in it will give him chance to play 4-4-2 at times.

I would still like to see us give the Rudge 4-5-1 system a go which he played away from home during good seasons, make our pitch bigger and go 4-4-2 at home?

I think he fits into a 433

                     Stone

Cass       Smith   Martin   Benning

       Conlon  Walker    Pett

Worrall         Wilson       Rodney

Isn't that the system though the majority were moaning about last season? i dont mind it if we use it as an attacking format

Just seen the highlights. Radio made Covolans sending off seem a lot worse than it was. Their guy knew exactly what he wanted to do. Think Covolan pulled at a loose thread on his shirt didn't he, and he went down as though Mr T had given him a roundhouse to the back. Covolan will learn from that.

If he's determined to use 3 at the back AND play Worrall, surely it has to be 343, with Worrall playing in the front 3?

For Tranmere I'd consider looking at 433, becoming 451 defensively when required and Benning overlapping down the left with Rodney

Benning
Smith
Martin
Cass

Conlon
Walker
Pett

Rodney L
Worrall R
Wilson/Proctor depending on Tuesday

Agree,I initially thought it was a foul to us with their player sliding in like he did.He then got up and clearly dived.

They had 8 debutants yesterday, so that’s one excuse we can’t really use.

Fair, didn't know that. They were no great shakes, suspect at the back, but more cohesive than us overall.

Just because they had 8 debutants doesnt mean it cant be used as an excuse. They could of found there system a bit quicker a sending off didnt help we are goung to get better im sure of it. We lost one game of football its going to happen everyone wants to start the season off with a win but id Much prefer us to click at the business end of the season. Results will come keep calm

Fine margins yesturday. Not great but neither were they.

That’s how I saw it.  For their goal the ball that deflects to the scorer could’ve gone anywhere.  He reacted quickly and I thought, in general, they looked a bit sharper than us.  That lifted them and rocked us a bit.  Then, if Wilson scores, just before half time as it was, we probably come out second half back on the front foot.

They had a bit more pace and direct running in their side than us.  Hopefully our, as yet unsigned, new winger will add a bit of pace and flair.

Speaking of giving it time, it did make me laugh when the anti Flitcroft abuse started in certain quarters in the stand when they scored. 22 minutes into a new season. Never change Vale fans.

Didn’t hear any of that where we sat.  Where I sat the fans were too busy abusing their players for celebrating right in front of us.  In fact their goal scorer should’ve been booked for inciting the crowd.  The ref had a word with him as the players walked back to the centre circle but nothing more.
