Match Thread: Port Vale v Exeter City

What a difference a half makes. I though Amoo and Bennett looked different players after the break. It could have been more. The movement of the Vale front three was irresistible at times during the second 45.

Maybe their performances will be overshadowed but I also thought Brisley and Conlon were good considering neither has been in the side much recently.

The linesman who booked Montano and missed a load of other things deserves no praise though...

An unbelievable second half. The midfield and forwards upped their work rate and kept it simple, go long and chase it. Exactly what they did first half and exactly what Swindon did to us. We really should be using worralls and Amoos pace in that way more often. Brisley has a very good second half as they continued to bombard that side. Amoo is unplayable at times, he just needs to believe in himself more. Good to see bennett score a header too, despite missing a good chance second half too. Conlons passing was excellent second half. Gibbo was one of the few to have a good 90 mins, but got away with one with the offside goal. Monty much better second half too. That was an exciting half of football.

I agree. . Rob  . Vale played    Brilliant the second half.   Well Done vale

Be honest - who would have thought at half time we would have won that game?

Really good win in the end

As it stands, we're still 10th but only 3 points off the p-offs.

We’d be well in the play offs by now if we could hold a lead for the final 5 minutes of a game

Positive signs again, they’ve got to follow this up! Next 2 games are going to be very interesting

I’ve been to the top 3 this season and Exeter were the best off the 3 so very good win tonight and with a lot of first teamers out. 100% better than the performance at Swindon.

A night for the oft-maligned; Brisley, Conlon, Amoo, and Bennett have all faced criticism (some due, some undue) this season and yet were the 4 best performers in the second half. Brisley, Conlon, and Bennett particularly dispelled the 'lack of depth' argument that has become accepted fact in recent weeks.

Another good side vanquished at VP and 3 goals scored against a side that hadn't conceded on a month. Bar an early stop, Brown had nothing to do, and they visibly crumbled under some great attacking play.

Keeps us alive. A signing before Friday and the return of Crooks, Manny, and Taylor sets us up nicely for a good end to the season.

Disappointing attendance but I couldn't care less when we perform like that. UTV

So the tactics were, play diabolical in the first half, lure them into a false sense of security, then absolutely slam them in the second half. Same away at Cheltenham in the cup. Buzzing with that result, Tom Conlon bossed that midfield second half.

Some of the balls Conlon was pinging were outrageous. Great work rate and fantastic all round performance. Hope he can get a run of games now to remind some fans what he's capable of.

I love being shut up this season. Absolute pleasure. That’s the debate settled. This squad can do it, we don’t need any players, the manager is great, owners are great.

That’s it.

Next step is to not need shutting up because you don’t moan when things aren’t going perfectly! 😉

Final point; an assist for Burgess who looks better every single week. His decision making in passing is superb, and a skill that's hard to teach.

Despite Manny and Taylor nearing fitness, it'd be exceptionally cruel to drop him. Very consistent for a young lad.

The difference between a normal Amoo and a confident Amoo is nothing short of night and day. Different player altogether. JMW instead of Geohaghon.

Get him in with a sports psychologist at St Georges Park.

And hopefully the vale moaners realise that digging in when he has an off game doesn’t help... in fact it does the exact opposite!!

Or get the crowd behind him instead of on his back. Thanks for clip. What a bizarre game that was. Terrific result for us. Still digesting it to be honest. A thoroughly entertaining bonkers game and we won. Nice.

So I said to my mate in front, "Why do they keep trying to put the ball on Bennett's head - he can't head for toff........... Oh great goal Richie!"

Painful first half, super second half.  Askey is a tactical genius!!

Drugs testing needed after that second half!!! Worst performance of the season swiftly followed by one of the best. Thought our second string players grew into to game as the confidence built up. Makes a massive difference when conlon plays forwards instead of back and sideways and proves that there is a player in there. Some of those balls for amoo were fantastic and gave amoo something to attack. Hope we don’t rest on our laurels now though would like to see us move a couple out and bring a couple in to freshen things up.

Well done vale.
