Tom Pope

I do find the defence of a striker with 26 goals in his last 129 games fairly mad.

Pope isn't the same player; if played with a nippy striker and we begin to show a semblance of a plan whilst attacking, he might, with a bit of luck, get us 8-10 goals. He's not going to be our main striker for goals this year.

In this team, 8-10 goals would be a miracle

Tom is trying hard. As a target man, in a team whose game plan is him, he is doing ok at that role. But he is the main striker and spends 95% of the game back to goal. He has no pace for a ball through or over the top. He has missed the goal chances he has had.

I would not have resigned him. But I really hope a new manager can find a partner up front and varying systems of play to get the best out of him. Keep working hard.

In the promotion season(how long that seems) he had wingers to feed him, and he put the balls into the net, before we start picking on him lets hope the new manager uses the wingers, we've got enough as they should be used, and feed the pope will I hope be sung again...

From the game yesterday, I actually thought he was dreadful, too stationary, falling over a lot, severely lacking in fitness it was embarrassing. For his contributions to the match yesterday I thought another striker could have done that just as well.

For me, he shouldn't be starting but is an option off the bench. If the 2,500 wages are true, then he is well and truly overpaid for his services.

It was pretty much a universal thought where I was sitting that Pope has had his day. He had the service yesterday and he loses it every single time. He can't compete for a ball, he loses headers, his footwork is poor and I won't even talk about his lack of pace. He brings nothing to the team but unfortunately there is no other option at the moment so he has to play.

Pope should never of come back. The guy has spent the last 2 years slagging the club off in his Sentinel column. His buddy Yates rightly lost the number 2 shirt and he was apopleptic.

Elav trop is a friend of mine on this occasion mate we will have to disagree. What I saw yesterday ( very close up at Bycars end ) was a sad parody of what he used to be. Constantly making embarrassing rolls and dives to get non existent free kicks or penalties.

He did one great piece of skill by the Lorne street but had nobody as an option.

When he falls he goes down in stages theatrically that it was cringe worthy to watch.

Great shame as the bloke is a legend.

He is not the worst nor is he the only scapegoat, Wilson was number one for the boo boys.

However none of the others came here with such a fanfare and fan joy.

There is no suggestion whatsoever that he is giving his all....he just isn't any good any more.

Sad to see

Wilson is finished as a player and not fit (literally) to lace Yates' boots. Then he has the front to laugh at concerned fans in the Paddock after the match. The sooner a true club man and proper defender like Yates replaces this fraud the better.

If this is true then his contract should be terminated, it end up being another exodus situation .

Pope did not lose the man who set up the goal

Pope was marking the number five who moved towards the middle of the box

The guy who headed the ball back was alone all of the time

No one was ever marking him

Turner was shattered and I understand the subbing

What I fail to understand is Brown saying that was the tactics

Run him into the ground for an hour and then sub him

So why wasn't Like on the bench to continue this role

Brown says he could not have Like on the bench because of the number

Of loan players involved

So leave out a midfield loan player or even a goalie

Proof that Brown needed to go

Pope had no pace to lose. He needs to be in the box or have runners around him.

The defence has been poor but they are left exposed by an absent midfield. You need someone in this league who can win the ball either through tackles or interceptions or ideally both we don't have anyone.

The only tactic yesterday was a goalie hoof up the pitch in the direction of Pope. So with no variation in tactics and no getting down the flanks and crossing, no effective corners and free kicks et al, Pope's strengths are easily countered and his weaknesses, particularly lack of pace, exposed. I hope a new manager will get more out of him, but in the end a striker has to score goals.
