Sentinel says Nigel Clough says he is a good player who needs to go out on loan to get games and may go to Port Vale tomorrow. He looks like a good addition, but I see a risk of us loaning him until January and then losing him if he is playing well. We suffered in the second half of the season when that happened to our main goalscorer last year.

Bit of a step up from League Two to Championship though. Birmingham weren't interested when Alex Jones was scoring for fun in League One.

I really wish this had been kept quiet until he has actually put pen to paper for Vale, not blaming anyone specifically as it may have been his own club manager that blurted it out - but there is now a real risk of some other club jumping in.

And it has since got a whole new audience on here, probably including some people from other clubs who might not have read the Burton local paper which printed Clough's ill-advised quotes.

 

Sorry, but I really think it would have been better to wait a day before putting the story on here for the good of the club. If he ends up not signing because someone nipped in after reading this news item on here last minute it could be bad news.

I'm guessing he put the kid's name about already to try and get him a loan deal. If a League One club stepped in at the last minute Clough and Harnes would be quite happy I'm sure.

You're probably right. I just think the player sounds ideal for us, and won't be devastated but will be a little upset if he doesn't join us now. But as the song says -

Maybe Mr Clough is more media savvy than we think. This could be a way of finalising the deal by making it difficult for us to back out now. And as has been said above, it also advertises his availability to other clubs in case our deal does go wrong.

im fairly confident far more people in football circles read twitter than a members only forum related to PVFC, the story broke on twitter
