The Lorne Street Stand

Memphis

Recommended Posts

Apparently there is a lot of work needed on the ground to make us compliant with regulations. There is also a need for things like new toilets in some areas, cover by the tea bars and the like. As the new owners have said, much of the work they are doing now should have been done in March or before. They are playing catch up at the minute. Cut them some slack.

The Lorne Street stand is a good place to watch games from. This will be our third season there. I can't see how the main terracing could be opened to football fans without a new toilet area. The current toilet is not big enough for more than the half stand it serves. The catering area would also need upgrading for the same reasons. Smurf estimated it would cost £250k to bring the additional terraced area in to use. So it would not seem to make business sense unless there is a sufficient surge in support to justify it. Even optimistically I can't see Vale support rising above an average of 6-7k, unless something fundamentally improved the level of core support. So it looks back burner to me.

Every single figure he came up with for anything has to be treated with contempt.

If the owners were to attempt to finish the stand they would have the goodwill of volunteers helping which he could never dream of.

Sunderland did this last season I believe. They replaced a load of their pink seats and the fans turned up and the new owners put on a BBQ with beers and refreshements.

What are the other pressing issues? The budget is the same as last season, and at the meeting all she said was its on the list to every question she answered.

Heard money needed spending on the pitch and personally if we have any extra money spend it on the team, that's what I primarily go the Vale to watch. I appreciate it doesnt look great remaining unfinished but there are plenty of empty seats elsewhere in the ground so its not as if we need the extra capacity. Fine if we have money to spare but not currently top of my list.

What does it entail apart from the seats which we would see? Toilets, catering, entrances, turnstiles, meeting safety regulations, etc . Installing seats is different than replacing seats also. There are other priorities for now.

At this stage I’d rather see the money spent on securing the future of the club. We need stability throughout the club and on the pitch which for every Vale fan I thought would be paramount.

We can’t fill the rest of the ground so consider the costs of having to provide stewards for another part of the ground. Yes complete it for nostalgia and aesthetic reason, but we’re a hand to mouth football club at the moment. It’s all about getting the foundations right.

If I only owned three cars why would I want to build a fourth garage when i wouldn’t be able to afford another car.

One thing that was mentioned at the meeting, was an idea I've actually thought about myself;

Getting banners to cover the unfinished part, so it doesn't look like what it actually is, a building project that ran out of money.

I know, and agree, with Colin Garlick that said it was all down to cost.

But surely, it could be possible to find some sort of sponsorship for them? Either with logos on them or just sponsoring the actual printing costs.

Something like this, could be a nice solution!

Pope would look at that and be thinking "Never mind Holy Cross, just give me a decent cross".
