My situation

I have a very difficult situation coming up , two of my grandchildren both boys aged 11 and 13 who i take to the Vale when ever i have them and Vale play have both been here for Sunday lunch today and have been begging me to take them go watch Stoke in the European games !

At first i thought they may be kidding around but no , when i asked why they wanted go see Stoke play their reply was '' They are good and Vale are naff '' , i could not really give an argument to that but after 30 minutes of me trying talk them out of it they still want to go and have their hearts set on it.

I fear the lads are going stop going the Vale and start going Stoke from now on and their friends all follow Stoke.

I fear Vale will be losing future fans because of Stoke's recent success and Vales lack of it.

WHAT DO I DO !?

It would be pretty hard to be a school kid and a Port Vale fan in Stoke. It'll teach them some good life qualities though! Perseverance, loyalty...

Don't give in!

My nice confessed to me a few days ago that she is now a Stoke season ticket holder. I explained to her that I would be writing her out of my will immediately.

I did used to take her and her mum the odd game when I came home. I even brought her some shares and a pink Vale hat.

But fair play to her, she gets to spend time with her dad and supports a local team and not just shove a Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool shirt on and watch sky sports.

She has assured me that she will still come to the odd Vale game, but I think thats is more to do with my impending redundancy pay out and re-writing my will. As the old TV advert says were there is a will there's a way.

My lad started to show signs of wanting to go stoke and in fact he did go a few games. The worst of it was that they were cracking games against villa and west ham in the cup. I had to sort it, he was never going to go back the vale, he couldn't stand the dire football (glover era) and the emptiness. He says he felt more afraid down the vale than at stoke, still can't work out why??? Anyway I went to a sports shop and bought him a England cricket one day international shirt and got him to join wood lane cricket club. He loves it and always has cricket on the box. I might have lost him from going to the vale but I haven't lost him to sjoke city :) he's 9

If you did a poll of 100 neutrals looking to watch footy in Stoke on Trent and they had a choice between the vale and sjoke atm 100 would go stoke. Some of you will say.....so what? Fact is they are on the up and we are declining fast!

With valiant 2001 and the 24.9% rule the vale is dying

Give them some backbone! When I was at school at their age (the old Hanley High) there were almost a 1,000 boys--at least 990 of them were Stoke supporters. Mind you, we did have Selwyn Whalley (for the younger ones-an ex PV full back) as sports master, but as he used the slipper liberally as punishment in those days, it was even harder to be a PV supporter after copping 6 of the best, but 60 years on I'm still addicted--to PV not corporal punishment of course!!
