Slovakia v England

How any striker can be called world class when they've only scored one goal in World Cup finals is beyond me. No more than John Terry.

Rooney - one goal (Uruguay - 2014). Even Gerrard has more than that (3) over the same time period.

He was good in the Euros though, 12 years ago!

A 'poor team' that once contained the likes of Alonso, Mascherano and Torres. He was still the best player when those three were in the same 11 as himself. I didn't know that poor teams won the Champions League either, and were then runners up two seasons later.

All good players, who all left when big clubs came in.Last trophy was ?

Alonso wanted to stay and was pushed out by Benitez who wanted to replace him with Gareth Barry, and Torres left because he felt betrayed by Liverpool over broken promises, and not because he was at all desperate to join Chelsea.

There can be no argument whatsoever that he was world-class for Liverpool for many years. Only a handful of players had anything like the same influence that he did on their team. He almost single-handedly won games for Liverpool on many occasions.

He did indeed..2005 CL final stands out for me. No doubt he produced some outstanding performances but for me he's nowhere near the likes of Maradona, Platini, either Ronaldo, Messi...very much second tier.

What about the FA Cup final where he was absolutely unbelievable? He played far better in that game than he did against AC Milan. And being second tier to those names you mentioned is hardly anything to be upset or angry about.

He was indeed very good in that game..although it was against West Ham

Indeed but unless they are solar system class it means he isn't world class

Depends on how loosely you wish to use the word world-class I suppose. In a Liverpool shirt, for me, Gerrard was absolutely world-class right until the back end of his career when he no longer had the legs.

Ronaldo only 3. Rooney does much, much more than just score goals, Rooney virtually missed the 2010 (?) because of a foot injury.

Id personally chose drinkwater and alli in midfield every day over Rooney. Also mark noble as well but that path has obviously closed. Rooney is a good forward but is an extremely average midfielder imo

So why haven't they got the number of caps for England as Rooney, answer, peopple who are far better judges of a player's ability than either of us and work with the players think otherwise.

Ali is a lot younger, Drinkwater? Too low profile until recently

Matt le Tissier only got 8 caps so I suppose he's cr@p compared to Crouch who has a whole lot more
