Statement from the 'Chairman'

George

Recommended Posts

You can twist any part of it to find something to match how you feel but I (and I bet I'll get loads of stick for this) think that was ok.

A decent start.

I think he's sorry.

I think he's realised he's dropped a massive testicle.

I think he genuinely wants the club to be ok.

I think the idea that he's engineered all this so he can profit/ build houses/ whatever is far fetched.

I think he has caused damage to the club but he's now trying to do what's best.

I think, just as newspapers are supposed to give equal prominence to apologies as they are to initial incorrect stories, he should take active steps so that as many people here his apology as heard his original slurs.

I think we should lay off him for a bit and concentrate on getting behind the team on Saturday.

I think you're spot on, great post.

I liked Smurf. I think he seems to suffer from manic depression, lurching from positives like building new flats a few weeks back and serving Bovrils (so much for fear of fans) to claiming we are racists who beat up chairmen under the cover of darkness. his comments since the cup defeat have been completely out of proportion. Doesn't stop him from being a decent bloke and we all make mistakes I'd love him to do a u turn on selling the club. I like having an individual figurehead. I liked the enthusiasm he had for the club.

My message for him is the club would double in value in the championship which will cost smurf much less investment from where we are now. We can get into the playoffs with a few minor tweaks. Selling the club for £4.2m is less close to reality than doing that. If he needs to leave he may as well go out on the high he deserves. Breaking up the club in a fire sale would be a sad waste or his energy and a legacy that would be his most public failure. However where we are now is not failure and I'd say we are on the cusp of success due to the three years of investment.

I wish he'd have taken this stance 3 years ago. He pushes himself to breaking point by creating a drama and then having to respond to it.

A Chairmans interaction with fans should be via statements, organised forums and just the odd radio appearance.

Smurthwaite always put himself under pressure to be the Chairman that it is impossible to be.

Spot on Mr H, though the damage has been done.

The best thing that can happen now is for the team to perform well on the pitch, giving us something constructive to talk about and pushing this a bit closer to the back-burner.

You might be onto something there, he does present many signs of suffering with his mental health, huge changes in mood swings, paranoid, anxiety, over confidence followed by crashing lows, shocking over reactions, lack of consideration of others situations, self doubt and dare I say, prone to exaggeration.... But he was / is ours....

The point is it's in the past tense: 'the enthusiasm he had for the club'. It seems to have gone, as does many people's enthusiasm for him.

Sound logic and extremely well put. Nice one!

i thank him for what hes done for our club, but i might be cynical in thinking a, hes too open/quick on facebook/twitter in whats going on. b, attacked by 3 fans and police have no comment when asked about it by the senile. c, it looks like hes after the sympathy vote off the fans.

but he as a record of foot to mouth and throwing the toys out of the pram, so has he really got the temprement to be a football club chairman? taking into account what he as infered about his customers...

I think he's only sorry because of the sh2t storm he's created.

Smurfs certainly had better weeks to put it mildly but at least seems to have calmed down a bit. That statement is the sort of statement he should of released Monday and then left it at that but at least he's apologised and hopefully will try and ensure he undoes some of the damage done.

He's very much a bull in a china shop at times and I'm glad he's coming of social media and forums.

Hopefully now we can focus on the game Saturday and try and encourage our boys on to try and close that gap on the top six.
