Cash Turnstiles ?

I've never got the cash turnstile excuse. Smurf sounded exasperated when he got asked this on Tuesday and rolled out this challenge which is unlikely to be achieved.

We don't need a cash turnstile. We have a ticket office where you can buy a ticket from weeks in advance, and on the matchday. There's also the website where you can buy and print off tickets (Although strangely not for cup games).

Cash turnstiles are open to fraud, and dealing with cash is messy and time consuming in large quantities. Welcome to the 21st Century

Perhaps the club should stop taking cash for refreshments, items from the clubs shop and everything else if cash is that evil. Everyone could use their contactless debit or credit card for all purchases. Wouldn't need more than 50 new card terminals for a guess and it would get rid of all those dodgy characters without bank accounts.

Thays a very simple way of viewing my post. Yes have ambition, yes have targets but he need to think before he speaks and also have a touch of reality. For the majority of his tenure he has said how much he is putting in and how this wont continue and he need more fans through the gate etc. etc. That in itself wont bring people through the gates. What incentive is that for families on small budgets to invest there cash in coming to see Port Vale. He might as well say if you buy a season ticket next year expect the team to be poorer, with poorer performances and less entertainment. He is doing some things really well but is letting himself down in this area. Build the buzz don't champion mediocracy.
The bloke is being open and honest. He has funded players expecting a 6k average gate, if only 4k turn up we make a loss. What would you expect to set the playing budget at next season, assuming no promotion or big cup run? It has to be 4k. Do banks have 5 queues or 1 queue serving 5 tills? Basic theory, no brainer.

It all depends on which side you are on I reckon.

We all know give side you will be on if the chairman makes a decision!

I don't get the nonsense about publicising it as an option. It's been communicated 4 days in advance of the game and surely the very essence of the whole point of pay at the turnstile is people who wouldn't go could make the last minute 'easier' decision to attend. You hardly need more than 4 days notice to pre-plan getting £12 cash in your pocket even in the day and age when card is king!

Don't give me excuses, give me solutions! ;)

How many incentives has he put in place though that have died on their bums? It's not for the want of trying.

DD ST payments, 2 game combined cheaper tickets, pay in advance for a ST or game ticket and get a discount, pay in advance, get free programmes for every game if you buy you ST in advance...

I'm sure however he won't stop trying but to imply he isn't incentivising people is wrong.

What we need to do is get the new trust up and running and active within young human societies!

ST is right about the fan base and a cash turnstile ain't going to see a bumper crowd for the 20 folks who want to return to the 1920's by being able to pay in shillings and pence and taking a flat clap and whippet!

This time last season we had two more league points than we do now.

Our FA cup game was at home to MK Dons.

The attendance was 4120.

To suggest that not breaking 5000 is a failure is, yet again, a failing on Normans part and a section of supporters who live in this bubble that we are/have lost/losing supporters.

Im sick and tired of repeating myself but google "port vale 2000/01 season"

Hit the wikipedia link and go from there. Year after year.

I can name you a dozen or more cup games at home with less than 5000.

I can also name you dozens of league gates less than 4000.

The first five home league attendances in the 2002 season, for example were as follows..... Tranmere (5629) Stockport (4070) Peterborough (3862) Colchester (3328) and Notts County (3505).

Frightning.

So lets embrace our fanbase that we have, especially with a premier league club down the road, and try to get our house in order accordingly.

Bang on , Ive allways been banging on about our so called missing fans , we get bigger crowds than when I started going in the late seventies and early eighties.!!

Cracking idea. Hope the chairman is reading your very helpful suggestion.

However I believe cash is and should be accepted in the ticket office and club shop. You've probably gone a bit far but I like your thinking.

Pay pass and pay wave rule. It's an electronic and much easier age but some people don't want progression it seems.

I read an article in the Mail recently championing the removal from circulation of 1p and 2p coins and rounding figures to the nearest 5p.

Christ some folks on here would be marching on the streets of London if they did

It's good that cash turnstiles are being offered for the match but to suddenly expect over 5000 to suddenly show up now is highly unlikely I would expect 4000 at most which isn't bad for this game, I'd expect this will however help out congestion on the ticket office on the day especially with it being a cup game and also may persuade a few hundred more to attend who didn't want the hassle or have the time to buy a ticket in advance, surely with so many empty seats in the stadium we should be doing everything in the clubs power to fill them up and if that means offering both cash turnstiles & tickets in advance to make it as easy as possible for fans to attend then surely that is a good thing, Surely if there is more/similar attendance there than our gate against Shrewsbury it shows it has worked well, especially as it is a cup game with no season ticket holders and against a team from 3 leagues below us which is on a Sunday with live premiership football on TV?

I already have my cup tickets but would have paid cash if I had known before as it is more convenient for me but for this one game I was able to buy in advance which I can't always do for cup games due to other commitments and lack of time but hopefully this will help others like me.

I have said it before though the club need to make it as easy as possible for fans to attend if we want to improve the attendances long term.
