That inspired me to take a look around Gillingham forums. I noticed a few comments concerned about squad depth which I reckon is where Rob Page's side does much better. Wheras we've coped fine with missing some of last season's best players like Neal and O'Connor, Gillingham look to revolve (certainly in goalscoring terms) around one player - Dack.

When we've brought subs on towards the end of games against the likes of WBA, Bradford and Wigan, I think Williamson would have been more effective that Daniel and AJ. I wouldn't want Tom or Ben in the first XI but as an impact sub, I think Ben would have been useful.

I thought that we more than matched Gillingham during our home game with them earlier on this season, we were the better side for long spells of that game, and they are currently top of the league.

 

Now I'm not saying we will or should be running away with the league or owt, but if they are the early pacesetters in League One then we shouldn't really be worrying about or fearing too many sides in our division this season.:)

I do see mr hobblesworth's point re Williamson as a sub, although I'm not sure we will miss/have missed him more than Pope. The answer to that question my lie with JJ Hooper and how he turns out!?

He certainly offered more energy as a sub however his end product and goal return at League One level are ropey at best. Also I'd be surprised if someone could sustain a career as a pro-footballer for a long period as a 'super sub' so to speak? You need to start games eventually and frankly Williamson's contribution at league one level when he did start wasn't really up to it.

 

Decent player in League Two mind and played a good hand in our promotion season which I will always thank him for!

How's it funny? I completely understand his point as we lack that sub with pace. I'm not saying it should be Williamson but I don't think we miss pope one bit.

I'm not sure we've missed Pope (Uche has done everything Pope did in this division and more). I'm also not sure we miss Williamson.

Far too early to say that yet. If we were to go 3 games without scoring, even if a couple were 0-0, the baying mob of doomhounds on here would start wailing again about our attackers being no good.
