Port Vale V Fleetwood post match

The margins are small, if Rochdale had had 2 less wins and Crewe 2 more wins, Crewe would have been above Rochdale in the table.

Hi bon ami,

I was fleshing out and putting into context the difference between 8th and 20th positions being, in my opinion, a poor L1 'Competition overall i.e. the top teams have simply run away with it leaving the rest of L1 to scrap it out.

Then again, we do walk upside down 'Downunder :)

Think that shows how poor the League has been this season, the worry for me is we have lost against the poorer sides too easily(Crewe X2,Colchester,Crawley,Notts County,Orient,Coventry) all took points off us most being at home and most scored 2-3 in the process! and 3 of those just got relegated and our only win in the last 11 was against the bottom team who had already gone down, the warning signs are there for everybody to see let's hope Norman makes the right decisions this week! If Page is given the job he is very fortunate on the back of that run and performances as I doubt many other chairman would take the risk!

Similar to the Prem? I dont suppose PNE are too happy with 89 points playing Chesterfield with only 69 points in the POs

Same as when we had 89 points, and WBA had about 69 , they went up and we didn't. Makes a bit of a mockery of the 46 game league programme.

The teams with the most points over a season should go up.

Wer'nt playoffs introduced just to reduce the number of teams in the prem.

No the play offs were introduced in the 80s weren't they and the PL didn't start until 93 I think.

I like them, keeps lots of teams involved and the season exciting. The only thing that I personally think is daft are the finals series some leagues have after the completion of the season, like the A League over here, the team that wins the league should be celebrated, crikey Brisbane Roar finished 7th out of 10 over here and qualified to play!

If I remember right, the club or clubs at bottom of league above played against clubs in our league in play offs in early days ,E.g milwall would of been playing ,say Chesterfield

Like in Scotland now. So the bottom 1 playoff club faces 3 teams from lower leagues

In which case then why not have play off's for relegation as well as promotion?

TBH It should be who finishes where with what points at the end of the season. No play off's.Simple as that.

West Brom only finished 4 points behind us that season when we finished with 89.

Of all the changes over the years, feel the addition of the play offs were the best thing they did, how many matches would be nothing games without the play offs. Most teams season would be over come Christmas.

Agreed. Can understand the perceived unfairness, but you know the rules at the start of the season, and as you say it prevents many dead rubbers after Xmas
