Qatar 2022 World Cup

For Us All

Recommended Posts

Qatar won the vote ( dont get me going on its validity) on the basis of a Summer World Cup. Now if they had proposed a Nov/Dec tournament at the start would they still have won the vote ? Me thinks not. FIFA however realise that you cannot hold a Summer tournament in that heat but which fools gave it to Qatar . The same ones who are now letting them move it. An earlier poster was right its a World game and there is nothing wrong with different countries hosting the event even if football isn't a major sport in that country. It spreads the world.

To drastically alter one of the fundamental conditions of your bid after you have won the vote is not right. What next Qatar wins and then moves it to another country. Perhaps that's the next trick for old old septic bladder . Mind the brown envelopes please.

What clearly matters to FIFA is money. So the best way to get back at them, in addition to boycotting the games, is to boycott the sponsors.

This is the list for 2018:

Russia, followed by Qatar - just about sums up FIFA for me: no values, no principles, no morality, nothing.

I'd like to but I appear to be boycotting all of them already!

When did Russia or the Middle East last host the world cup?

With regard to spreading the competition around, only five of the twenty World Cups so far have been held in the southern hemisphere. Surely that was a very good argument in support of holding the 2022 competition in Australia whose bid was clearly more sensible than Qatar. Not only would the climate have been more conducive, it is a country with an established professional league - unlike Qatar.

Having witnessed a lot of Australian football first hand both at semi and pro level your use of the word professional is highly debatable when taken into worldwide context ;)

Personally I would love a combined Oz and NZ competition in 2026, sadly it seemed the Yanks will be getting it again :(

I watched Melbourne Vics against Perth Glory 15 months ago and I thought the standard was as good as our Championship. I watch most of the Melbourne Vics games on the telly and I wouldn't actually call the professionalism of the A League "highly debatable"??

I too watched that game, but wasn't that impressed. Then again, when I watch League 1 football on the tele as a neutral, I always wonder why I spend so much time and money watching it live!
