Fri 26th Dec 2014, Port Vale v Sheffield Utd, pre-match, the match itself.

A lot of the experts thought we would struggle against Crawley and we proved them wrong.

I agree I'd make 2/3 changes but there is an argument to say those with the shirt earned it from Saturday.

There is a case for that, but personally I always think we should pick the strongest 11 to face a certain opposition, to attack their weaknesses. Also for me Lines just has to come back in.

Have never seen us beat Sheffield United at VP so hopefully one of these days it may happen!! The win at Bramall Lane in the League Cup a few years ago was a good night(when Ian Bennett dropped it over the line from Richards' free kick!). Apart from that I don't think I've ever left VP or Bramall Lane happy after a Vale game against them, as the poster on page 1 put they are our ultimate bogie side!(Notts Forest run them a close 2nd but I reckon we've probably played Sheffield more in the last 50 years than Forest? so they win!) They're players could probably all have 6 helpings of Turkey each on xmas day and still beat us! But here's hoping!:D[/quote]

I remember a nil-nil a few years ago at Vale Park, and it was one of the best games I've ever seen! It was a treat of attacking and counter-attacking football, played in a great spirit, and me and son couldn't believe it finished scoreless...I'd take that again!

Still remember that 3-3 draw with them in the 88/89 promotion season.

I remember shortly after Rudgie took over in 1983,going to Preston on Boxing Day and getting hammered 4-0.The next day we played Sheff.Utd at home in front of over 7,000 and beat them 2-0 with goals from Eamonn O'Keefe and Kevin Young.Unfortunately,we got relegated that season.:(

I have to confess to not having seen Campion play at all, so perhaps someone who has can enlighten me...

Would it be fair to say that Williamson runs the channels, pulls defenders out wide, has pace and can close defenders down quickly, but doesn't get into goalscoring positions often enough and often misses when he does..... whereas Campion does get into the goalscoring positions and obviously has a good knack of sticking it in the net, but perhaps lacks Williamson's work rate?

I'm not sure it is a good idea to post somewhat unflattering stuff about the ref before a game, so I will add that when I have seen him officiate at games I have had no complaints at all and I'm sure he will be a good and balanced referee.

A very difficult game, followed quickly by an even more difficult game, and if we get 2 pts or more from these 2 games it will be a good return, any more fantastic.

Here's hoping for a good result against the Blades. A crowd of 8000+ would be nice too, and maybe we will get to see monsieur C for at least part of the game.
