Your response has been most helpful.

I expect that the original question was too difficult for you.

I know there are one or two matchday stewards who post on here. Would you be able to tell me if you have to be DBS (CRB) checked to be a stewards please?

I don't think you do as a steward - although all the security staff are as they are sourced from an outside company

Seems like a long time ago now. When I think back to how we used to slum it in The Championship and League One......:D

Losing regularly to Boslem's finest!

The reason I asked the question is that I am getting increasingly aggravated at clubs demanding we be patted down/body searched by random individuals in yellow jackets before we can get into the stadium. They could be on the sex offenders register for all we know!!

All you need do is to ask a direct question of the person requesting to frisk you - Ask him/her if they have been cleared by the governing bodies to perform such tasks, and if he/she declines to answer, or replies in the negative ask if a member of the police force would mind either doing the act themselves or overseeing it in a professional manner. No F inf and Blinding but state the case clearly and without confrontation or anamosity.

So as to set the standard at all grounds it may be worth sending a recorded delivery letter to all club secretaries and ask them if their match day staff, or their outsourced contractors, have been cleared to perform such tasks. I would suggest that this would be better received if it came through the Supporters club.
