There are no free benefits in France,you have to pay into the system first through taxes,security charges and the like.It would help if the EU had a level playing field but it's never going to happen

 

We should be proud that we have a better system than France. The level playing field should be to bring the Fench system up to ours then immigrants would not target us and we still keep the massive advantages for all of us that our system offers

"British Airways has cancelled flights to Sierra Leone and Liberia"..suspending 4 flights a week is hardly the same as checking everyone who flies in from Africa. I suspect this is more about protecting its staff than any public health concerns

Good on France for taking some action,in my opinion if they are genuine asylum seekers they would seek refuge in the first country they arrived in.

Most of those camped up in Calais are simply benefits migrants who are hell bent on reaching the UK for one reason alone.

It is the case that once here,they have little respect for this country but wish to create their own "space" and live in isolation.

Interestingly Switzerland has introduced a quota system for immigration and in so doing violated its trade agreement with the EU which will require renegotiation. And so the tentacles are tightening on the free movement of people in the EU and elsewhere and I think we will reach a tipping point where alongside other issues the UK and other countries badly affected by too much immigration have the political imperative to act. An important aspect to being able to act is support in the general population in enough countries and that is clearly present.

The only decent response to such a tragedy is sympathy for them and disgust at anyone who may have been invoilved in smuggling them in in such terrible conditions

I'd charter a large ship at Calais. Let the illegal immigrants aboard... but pretend you're fighting them off, just not very well.

 

And then set sail for Greenland.

We must not overreact to this..it's only a few hundred after all. However, the French authorities haev a responsibility to protect the ferry crews, lorry drivers etc...probably a case for sending in the army to handle security
