What does one expect from a cnut like Collymore.Perhaps he'd like to repeat those words face to face with the SAS.

I've been following all this on Twitter. At no point does he refer to the 1982 war to reclaim it from Argentina. He's talking about when we 'claimed it' originally. And he is right, it wasn't anyone's. We just 'took it'.

Agree he is coming across as an **** but at no point did he slag off our armed forces.

As I said, he's coming across as an ****. I just wanted to point out he made no reference to the 1982 war or our armed forces.

Sorry George, you're wrong. It was a French possession we took over after the Napoleonic war, I suppose as part of the 'spoils of war'. The Argentines never had it in the first place; indeed, the name 'Malvinas' by which the Argentines refer to the islands derives from the name of St. Malo, one of the bigger French ports.

Stan Collymore is old enough to remember the events of 1982 and the loss of life involved to liberate the islands for those living there. The mildest thing I can say is he should have known better.

Apologies, you're right. What I meant was it wasn't the Argentines originally, which you have confirmed.

It was an ill advised, insensitive comment but I don't think it was anything malicious.

People calling him names etc should probably take a step back and take the irony of the situation into account

It's just the latest in a long line of despicable incidents involving Collymore.

It's hardly name calling, its stating facts.

Those who are attacking Collymore by name calling and reference to his past are merely indicating the weakness of their case and even their lack of understanding of what he actually wrote. I would have thought that those who fought and died in The Falklands were defending freedom of speech amongst many other things.

No, it's name calling. If you're taking the moral high ground in any situation then in order to maintain your position you have to avoid such behaviour.
