I had a dream last night that we beat Salisbury 4-0 with Birchall scoring the fourth with a absolute screamer, then we drew Stoke at home. I dont normally have dreams, i wonder what odds i could get on this happening.

Hummm a home gate against Stoke of no more than 19k, with the potential of getting embarrassed and having to listen to the great unwashed never shutting up about it. Or a nice 60,000 plus away at Arsenal or Old Trafford. I know which I'd prefer.

Some interesting posts. Thanks Geo for crystalising it for me _ I am now convinced that come January if still in touch with playoffs NS should go for it with a couple of talismatic signings that would increase revenue and playoff chances. Football is a business and if you try and stand still interest wanes and you dont stand still you fail.

given a choice between sustainability and a promotion push. I would choose sustainability, like I said in my earlier post

What a load of c*** with a capital C. If and it is a big if (dont lets get carried away with all this talk of promotion pushes) the ever so mighty vale do have a chance with a couple of games to go of finishing in the play offs, are you suggesting that they throw the games to remain sustainable. Get real wake up and smell the coffee.

Whilst I can understand where your coming from Dave, who are you expecting to sign, to increase gates. The side are flying and yet less than 5000 turned up against Preston. And no that isn't a moan, at the end of the day, people have only got so much money and people work shifts. We could sign ****** Messi and Ronaldo but we still wouldn't get many more week in, week out. Not until we actually have achieved years of success and then it's still not easy, with youngsters constantly getting the Premiership pumped down their throats by Sky TV. So what happens, if there is truth in comments we are losing £50k a month, and Smurf pumps even more in, but the gamble doesn't pay off and we don't go up.

With respect, I think you have spectacularly misunderstood what Geo was saying. He is not against promotion per se, but would not be happy with a January spending spree in trying to attain it.

I dont tend to agree with Geonames posts in general but he is absolutely correct and very misunderstood by many others in this particular debate.

He, like many others, would not choose against promotion to The Championship should it happen. However, what we should not do is spend above our means in the January window in an attempt to get there and gamble our future existence as a result.

We have gone from Administration to signing the likes of Hughes, Lines and Dickinson on big wages within a year. We are already at our maximum wages to turnover limit. Attendences starting to dwindle despite our excellent form. Therefore we need to be careful not carefree.

Sure about that? They'd put the kids out and the gate would be less than 30k.

They don't they are just making it up' date=' income increases, I'm sure if anyone asked Smurthwaite he would laugh off such stupid suggestions. I do love daft rumours.[/quote']Surely the argument hinges on taking promotion if it should happen, and whether we should increase spending on players to improve our chances? Sustainable consolidation is preferable to risky investment, but if we go up so be it.

Dave, I gave an opinion about a thread on PVO, I havent read the thread in full just given a summery of the few posts I read adding my opinion.

Yes football is a business and the sooner it is run like a business the less people will be concerned, How would your business be doing if you had to inject 50K every month?

Maybe wrong mate, in which case appreciate where your coming from, but I'm certain both Man U and Arsenal still get massive crowds for the FA Cup even against lower opposition. Although I know the League Cup doesn't attract as many. IF we get through Friday, it will prob be Charlton away anyway so I wouldn't worry about it. :)
