Match Thread: Notts County v Port Vale

Valiants dreaming in an Aspin Wonderland, as the New Year starts in Nottingham. Putting the uncertainties of the January transfer market to one side while we concentrate on 3 points from the number 2 in the league after demoralizing the leaders, what are the team options? A change or two to ease weary limbs or will the excitement carry them through? Whitfield available? How about bringing Gibbons back in a midfield role?

Need to keep feet on ground, Luton won 5-0 days before we pasted them, Notts won 4-1 then lost to the worst team at home in the division ironically who had been smacked for 5 by Luton so a lot of inconsistent results this Xmas period.

I was worried we’d have three or four losses on the spin over Xmas with how tough the games looked, if we avoid defeat it would be a superb effort.

Got a feeling we might nick it though 1-0! Get this out the way and two games against strugglers so could really stamp ourselves fully out the relegation battle this next fortnight if we stick to the job in hand and take 6 or 7 points.

Just going off what RS stated just after the Aspin interview.Not seen anything about the supposed 'New contract' its only been reported on 'unofficial Vale site'Sentinel saying could be sorted in the week.

This is a 'bonus game' for me because we've already outperformed on the 4 points from the Christmas games I was hoping for.

I'll be there hoping for a win but at least I won't feel like it's utter disaster if we don't get anything.

My biggest worry right now is what could happen to the team if we lose players like Whitfield and Gunning or possibly Harness if Burton recalled him. If we end up with a weakened squad we could go back to struggling. It's going to be interesting to see which team we put out tomorrow and how they perform.

In his video interview after the game Whitfield said"we" in relation to the Notts game which seemed to me he would be playing.

But he did not say who with, Sentinel quote “There have been talks, I am not too sure what the agreement is yet. Whether I am here or elsewhere I have enjoyed my time here but we will find out in the next couple of days.”

Yes he can.

We have a squad now with replacements that are seemingly enjoying their football as are the regular 11 picked.

In my opinion whoever Aspin selects will have the same mentality and belief now as the others and the feel good factor and confidence rolling throughout will enable us to compete with anyone in our Division.

I am expecting a very tough game but hope we can retain our run with a draw at least.

IF Vale lose and I certainly don't want them to lose.I just hope everyone don't go in to suicide mode (not much point phoning the samaritans even then as they are extremely busy dealing with the Incinerator stadium lot)We have had a great run of games and results.Getting far more than was expected.To start the New year with a win at Notts County would be awesome.A draw would be OK.To lose would NOT be the end of the world.

Not what Radio Stoke said.I don't understand why they said it his contract is till the 4th Jan but they defiantly said it.(Think it was something to do with what Aspin had said earlier, before the interview.)Maybe its mind games by Aspin.
