Re. Lee Hughes:

I think there are two issues here:

1. Britain's laws about driving offences that kill are hopelessly soft, but....

2. Once a sentence is served, we can't keep the person out of everyday life, which may include a job in the public eye.

 

Personally, I don't buy the 'footballer as role model' argument, BUT I absolutely understand that, given the stupidly soft penalties given to driving killers, many people - not just football fans - are sickened to see offenders back, and even driving again, after what they perceive as minor sentences.

The fact that the manager is prepared to let him go suggests something is not right. And you missed the point of my post by implying that I was saying Hughes was not a good player - I never said that.

 

Lee Hughes hasnt been a regular this year. He doesnt have a great relationship with Keith Curle. Micky Adams may have sounded this out, infact im sure we would have approached him. Lee wants the move as its one last payday and regular football. Keith wants him out as he isnt part of their long term plans.

I'm not sure that this signing will ensure that we don't defend too deep a la York. With Chilvers on, Neal will have to sit in the Bycars.

2 decent signings in my opinion. Hughes is a proven goalscorer at league 1 and 2 level and Chilvers is steady at the back and is better with the ball at his feet that Mccombe and Mcdonald. I can see why people are concerned about Hughes signing but if he fires us into league 1 then thats all that matters for me. Also he does do charity work and im sure hes learnt from his mistake. UTV!

Just because the transfer deadline finished at 5pm today does not mean that all transfers will be announced at 17:01. I'm sure a fair few signings wilk be anounced later on this evening and tomorriw morning, once the paperwork etc has all been finalized and signed.

Better on the ball? MacDonald has got good passing for a centre half alot better than any other defender in the squad. He pings 40 yarders all over the pitch what you on about??

 

I'd prefer a centre half who can defend and possibly win the odd ball in the air.

 

I could beat McDonald over 20 yards, Chilvers might just have the edge on me, but only just.

And I make no apologies for saying that. I've experienced first hand how an idiot can rip a family apart when driving. I'm still grieving for the loss of a close family member who was run down by a driver on the wrong side of the road. He's a murderer and a scum bag. Lee Hughes is worse. He recklessly risked other people's lives through his own stupidity. He tore a family apart. I don't like the fact that he will potentially be wearing Vale colours.

 

I still hurt from losing someone to a reckless driver. I don't want to see any of my money go to funding a murderers wages. Ill still love the Vale and be as delighted as you and anyone else if they go up. I just can't forget what a scumbag Hughes is.

 

Perhaps if people had experienced what I had they'd be less inclined to mouth of at me as just another "oh it's only Twitters the ****" *****.

Fair enough if you are keeping to your stance. Good for you. Its OTT in my opinion and it seems youre biting your nose off to spite your face but hey thats your decision.
