He s a good player no doubt… but we have a lot of injury prone defenders already and we should think very carefully about employing another one. Let’s see if he can play in 80% of games between now and the end of the season without picking up an injury before we start offering contracts.

Our oldest out-fielder at 35, subject to proving his fitness why not an extension, if he enables the Great Escape

What does Smith do with the players he had available. He's paired Cole with Stockley and introduced Shipley for a  greater range of passing in the middle of the park. I guess his starting 11 reflected  Vale were playing a confident team with a number of wins in recent games and he didn't wish to be out of the game at HT.

As the game panned out Smith made the call on the starting line up and the result shows he got it right. When they had 11 on the pitch they dominated, the sending off changed everything and Smith made the right subs at half time and the rest is history.

I felt Curtis and Hall were gonna come on at some stage.

Nothing changed until we went four at the back and in my opinion continuing with the same tactics that got us rooted to the bottom using the excuse that it suits the players we have is nonsense, if it suited the players we have we wouldn't be bottom. Wing backs haven't worked its time to change it.

No starting shape has worked this season.

DM didn't try anything else he has relied on wing backs for 95% of the games this season so its difficult to argue that nothing has worked.

Just back in - so haven't read upon comments.

Positives:

George Hall ripped them apart on right!
Ruthless in front of goal

Should give the players some belief/confidence - what we now need

Negative:

Unable to establish what has been worse. Watching Moore's style of football for 2 years or listening to Dave (Vale fan) on Praise & Grumble. Christ - you would have that we'd lost 5-1.

Incredible!

I agree dave was a right plonker.

Just watched Stockley's header again to see if he can get in again from an impossible angle.... can't believe it, he's only gone and got it in 🥳. What a header

You are the only person on here who thinks that it was a definite red card which makes your statement look even sillier that you know exactly what the Blackpool player was thinking

Nowhere near the only one I am certain it was a red and anyone who has read the rules will, at the very least, understand why it was given. The defenders lunge was not under control and he endangered his opponent. Red for the same reason we lost the appeal against the red byers got.

I thought it was a red.

We played a back 4 against Peterborough and looked a bit open at the back IMO

Absolutely, I can't think fo anyone else in this squad who would have scored that goa and criminal that he has only been used as a late sub in games we have already lost. I wonder how many free headers from corners have the likes of heneghan missed this season that might have been buried by stockley?

Lack of variety in tactics was the problem, wrong pegs didn't help either.

I think we need to try it for longer than an occasional match. Don't you think we would have scored more goals with full backs taking care of the defending while hall and Johnson or hall and curtis attack on the flanks because I certainly think we would. I am also certain that we wouldn't have had so many injuries to the players playing at wing back.

Wing backs hasn't worked all season Im not sure you can entirely counter that with 4 at the back didn't work in one game, its a weak argument I think.

Hopefully the new manager will give it a go and then we will see.

Sometimes it will work sometimes it won't, you've got to consider how the opposition are set up. With 442 there's always the risk of being overrun in centre mid. To be honest I'm happy for either 352 or 442 and assume that we've done our homework. The main thing for me is to not play 343. A front 2 is the only way to go IMO. You could also argue that 352 hasn't worked because our wingbacks have been injured.

Darren Moore would not have made those changes at half time that Jamie Smith did. This suggests that he is a lot more flexible than Moore with his tactics.See how Sunday goes and if,hopefully,it goes well,Carol and Matt should be able to take their time with the process.Just a real shame that the sacking took so long.

I thought we were a lot better today because we made positive substitutions when the game was there for the taking, and for all the criticism levelled at the current regime, Smith could have just sat on his arse knowing he's out of a job in a week or two's time and stuck with the same team.

Fair play he changed it, kept two up top, put two wingers on and went at them, and it worked.

Stockley looked a far different player than he did at the start of the season, a constant threat. George Hall and Curtis changed the game and both were threats out wide. I was worried about the pace of Blackpool, but we nullified that, and Marvin Johnson looked much more able at dealing with him that Sam Hart did last year in the Bromley away game.

Yes, we only beat ten men, but you can only beat what's in front of you and hopefully a prospective new manager will have watched that and seen that these players can produce results if we play to their strengths.

Exactly that, we need to play to our strengths and in johnson, hall and curtis we have three wide men who are capable of terrorising defences at this level.

We show teams far too much respect 10 men or not blackpool couldn't live with us after the formation change and losing one player doesn't make your entire defence fall apart the way theirs did. Ok their manager did empty his midfield for us at the start of the second half, silly boy, but even so Stockley and cole attacking the box while johnson and hall push the opposition back and deliver balls in that's got to be better hasn't it? Byers and shipley with wide runners either side of them? I'd rather watch that than 1 shot a game defensive tripe.
