Match Thread - Port Vale v Peterborough Utd

I think that’s pretty much the season done already, and it’s only 20th December with 26 games still to play. An absolute shambles.

Darren Moore’s League One record with Vale is damning:

Played 37
Won 5
Drawn 10
Lost 22

That’s 0.68 points per game. Carry that on over the remaining 26 matches and we’re finishing on just over 32 points. Rock bottom.

What I genuinely don’t understand is what Carol and the board are seeing that the rest of us aren’t. Moore has had the chance to build this squad himself, and on paper it looked a cut above what we’ve had in recent seasons. Yet we look miles off it.

At this point it’s not bad luck, it’s negligence from the top. We’re watching the same mistakes from 23/24 being repeated. Moore should have gone after Plymouth. Instead we were told by the CEO that the stats are good and training is good.

I’m honestly lost for words. The 150th anniversary season is becoming one of the worst in the club’s history, and that’s down to a board who seem determined to ignore a loyal fanbase who can see exactly where this is heading.

Enough.

Moore out.

I imagine she’s seeing something approaching £2m outgoing in compo / new appointments….???

Well what can i say not much decent start too game Waine /Cole should score Hall goes off all over the place generally at times lucky it stayed 0-0 till when it did but a inevitability about Moore costing us the game which he did

The effort was there but overall they deserved win .

Vale in L1 is about as enjoyable as a bushtrucker trial

Hate too admit we are down up until today was hoping things would change but we seem destined for league 2

Very disappointed in Vale today expected a lot better .

All my enthusiasm gone

Happy Xmas to you Vale lot try forget about the football .

Its time move away from football

No sleep ,heart ,love well today its evaporated

It's concerning that after the substitution, Paton looked at the bench and asked what they were meant to be doing. Nobody had a clue.

This.

Even after owning the club for 5+ years Carol still doesn’t understand… she never will.

I don’t mean to be disparaging of older supporters at the Vale, the Golden Valiants lot but they feature heavily in our marketing and I believe Carol feels close and a connection with them. It stands to reason many share experiences like Alan has, they’ve watched us going through much worse and are really just grateful there’s a club to watch on Saturdays come whatever.

From all that I don’t think Carol really understands that success comes first, and breeds community second. Doing everything backward will be what kills the club. Investment in the first team is needed to sustain and grow. It can not be done through values and community alone.

You should never appoint a manager on a contract you can’t afford to get out of. That’s basics.

@darren1810I am full of praise for women's referee but I'm afraid that she was definitely the worst female referee that we have had to date as she was giving all the fouls Peterborough's way and I saw our players getting their shirts pulled on numerous occasions and fouled yet she wasn't giving us any freekicks. The Railway lino was bad in the first half as he missed numerous offsides but in the second half he was terrible as he gave them a freekick when our player didn't even touch him, he was giving them throw-ins when it clearly came off a Peterborough player last and he couldn't wait to give offside to our players the worst offside that he got wrong though was when he flagged offside against our player (I think it was G Hall) who was nowhere near the ball when another player was running in who clearly wasn't offside yet he put his flag up.

I said yesterday that nearly all of the women refs we have had been steady ,indeed excellent. No frills.

Today she was dreadful. The free kick that led to their goal was a joke and first half G Hall was fouled umpteen times yet she gave nothing.

Also the winger who made Clark dizzy , on 2 occasions carried on dribbling with the ball after she had blown. Yet nothing, not even a word. Blatantly time wasting.

It's standard though rubbish officials and let's not use her as an excuse.

Vale were worse than the officials, hence we lost.

I am fairly confident most Vale fans understand football better than Carol and Matt.

And Darren.

Carol is on her own here, she has no board of directors or anybody in a position of football expertise.

She is reliant on a decent bloke who is a rubbish footy manager.

His win percentage with us as a league 1 manager is 13% !!!!!! 😎.

My biggest fear is we do a Carlisle, Forest Green possibly Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers and go down again !

Yep, it is the standard of officials nowadays as not many of them are decent but yep I'm not using her as an excuse in the slightest.

We were awful today but IMO I think we got worse after Connor had gone off as after that the defence were getting exposed time and time again and the amount of room we were giving to Peterborough's players was unacceptable and if they had their finishing boots on they could and should have been 3-0 up at half-time.

Agreed. That’s why a 5.5 year contract given the record at his previous club was the very definition of insanity.

Most clubs who finish bottom go down again in League 2, or very close.

I’m trying to get my head around what it is with the usage of Faal and can only assume despite the clubs denial there is some sort of clause we have to name him in the squad / give him time etc. Ok bring off Mitch but there’s a ton of other things he could have done but instead brings on this guy who for 6ft+ how many times does he win an aerial contest or hold off a defender?

I'm 5"6 and I reckon I could beat him in an aerial duel

Yes there were a couple of players wondering what the hell was going on as well as the crowd. As you said earlier there is not a one who would have made that substitution. The fact Stockley was on the bench and also Lomax makes the decision unfathomable. He has lost the plot. He has to be removed if he won't walk. Give someone else the window as I don't trust these people to bring in any decent players, that's if they will come!

Another Saturday afternoon wasted watching largely turgid football. Seems like groundhog day every match at Vale Park...first 20 minutes we flatter to deceive before it goes flat and the opposition start to get on top. Moore simply HAS to go. His team play in his image. He can't string two cohesive words together and his team can't string two passes together. Pre match, I listened to Darren Moores interview on Radio Stoke. And I cringed. I think he's the most inarticulate person I've ever listened to. His words make no sense. Some say, why does that matter? It matters because a good, effective manager needs to be a good communicator. Can anyone seriously think he motivates his players? I've supported the Vale for more than 50 years and a season ticket holder. Hand on heart, I think he's the most uninspiring, one dimensional, tactically inept, stubborn manager I've seen in all that time, and let's face it, we've had some shockers. I just don't get why the club's hierarchy can't see what 90% plus of Vale fans can plainly see on nearly every match day. I'm now resigned to relegation. We have a squad that should be able to hold its own in this division, and there is only one main reason we are where we are. Like others have said, I'm now beyond angry. I just sit there on matchdays largely apathetic knowing what the outcome will be. You'd forgive the turgid, one dimensional football to an extent if it was delivering results. But we're getting the worst of both worlds.  Just examine his beyond shocking record with us at League 1 level. That tells anyone all they need to know about this manager's capabilities. Shame Carol and Co. seems to be tone deaf.

I take it you're not a Moore fan then?

3 of last season relegated clubs from League 1, Shrewsbury, Crawley and Bristol are in the bottom 5 of League 2.
