Match Thread - Port Vale v Plymouth Argyle

I’m glad G.Hall is in. Someone who is willing to advance with the ball is definitely welcome. Hopefully it’s more 3-4-1–2 with Paton alongside Cole than a flat 3-4-3.

Not sure what’s going on with Byers. I presume he’s picked up a knock in training as can’t believe he’d be bomb-squadded for missing in a meaningless shootout.

Speaking to more than one person for a start. Having a vision of what kind of team we want to be and doing some due diligence.

Whatever has happened the fact is there is failure somewhere because whilst we have improved enough at league two level to be promotion material the last two seasons there for whatever reason we can’t get it right in league one despite significantly increased expenditure compared to past Vale sides that have comfortably done ok at this level.

If and as I expect when Moore does depart we need an inquest within the club to figure out why despite better players, bigger budget we are performing so badly and find a solution even if it’s too late to save this season for when we do bounce back.

What is it that’s stopping us progressing no matter what money we invest in it for example. Simple as that. Doesn’t matter who is to blame but we have a problem and we need to find a solution going forward as a club because as much as I enjoy the league two promotions the relegations in between aren’t much fun and we are not progressing on the field in the same way we are off it.

Last few times when he has played those three it’s been a 3-4-3. It’s clearly his favoured formation and always tries to return to it. It’s pointless hoping otherwise. He’s a member of amorins 3-4-3 religion, where he’d rather play a 6’4 centre half at wing back, or strikers as wingers,  rather than change.

I hope the Vake fans who say that they’ll boo Tolaj, refrain from doing so. It was embarrassing when Will Forrester returned as a Bolton player. Let’s show a bit of class and for those who have said they’ll boo, just keep quiet, whilst the rest of us show some appreciation.

Well you can tell people to not boo..buts it's there choice not yours, they pay their money the same as you,you sit in silence while the rest don't,oh and before you ask I might live in Wales but I don't have class I was born and bred in boslem 🤣🤣🤣...Goooooarn the vale...UTV VTID 👍

What's stopping us IMO is Mr. Tinker man.  DM makes Claudio Rainieri, the original Mr. Tincker man, look like Mr. Consistency in comparison.  Because of the confusion and instability he creates within the set-up & squad, it's little wonder that we're not progressing despite having what, on paper, looks better quality players.  I had a lot of hope originally for what DM might bring to Vale Park, but unfortunately the evidence (even during last season's promotion year) is that as a manager, he's instinctively cautious and lacks the imagination & flair to create exciting and successful teams.  For these reason, sadly, my vote is for "leave".

Carol should give Nippy a ring.

To be fair Bill Bratt didn’t think he could get Micky Adam’s so you never know🤞😀

I’m sorry - I know he’s been a terrific servant & scored some important goals for us- but how does Garrity get in over Cros or Ojo at the moment?? I honestly can’t work it out.

Other than Tolaj scoring (obvs) I’ve no idea how today will go. Walked up from Longport station with two Argyle fans and we were jokingly arguing about who was worse - they are adamant it’s them after their “shambles at Huddersfield”. They also agree one manager will go with a loss today.

Let’s hope not

Bizarre attitude. Why would you not clap him at the start? Obviously will not clap if he scores.

People love Ainsworth despite him moving on after one season. How’s this different? He got us promoted and moved on to a bigger club and higher pay, pocketing us just under £1m profit in the process. He gets my thanks.

I’m just speaking for me personally but he’s getting nothing from me neither boos and definitely not applause. I’ll reserve that for true Vale greats like Guppy, Van Der Laan or Naylor.  Wish him no ill but he’s just an opponent to me.

Yeah that’s fair enough. It’s the booing I don’t understand.

Don't give away sloppy goals and stop any worldies from Plymouth and Vale will get a result.

Stop Tolaj cutting inside off Plymouths' right hand side into the middle onto his left foot, show him down the line.

Boo him and he will score. Got us promoted, why would we boo?

Team looks fine, let’s see how we play

Yeah I can’t think of anyone I’d actively boo who used to play for us (who is still playing at least). I will say this though, if a Vale player wants to awaken the home crowd from its usual slumber then a well timed reducer on Tolaj wouldn’t be the worst thing. Just saying.
