Match Thread: Birmingham v Port Vale (League Cup)

Saw a lot of folk write off this game. Put the reserves out. Get beat and 'focus on the league'.

Never understood this mentality. Knockout football for 90 minutes. It was just the tonic after a bitter week. Suddenly, everyone has a massive lift.

The performance isn't a surprise to me. We're a good side, full of good players and battle. We've always been brilliant without the ball. We were the better side, creating the better chances and carrying the greater threat throughout. The defensive set-up was excellent and didn't give them a sniff. We've played well for most of the games this season and just been a bit unfortunate that the ball hasn't bounced our way. Anyone could see that.

They were a classic quasi-Barcelona side who can't handle set-pieces and can't break down a well-oiled machine. We just outran and outfought them, which will win most games. They were chucking big name after big name on and they had little-to-no impact. Stansfield might as well not bothered.

Won't single out any individuals, just that a lot of them earned the shirt tonight and it's down to the others to win it back. Thought Moore might go back to his favoured 343 and we looked very dangerous.

Just keep it in mind - we're a good side. We might not win on Saturday. We've got to keep our heads. The rewards will come and we've just got to do what we did tonight - stick with a very decent side that have been on the wrong end of some bad luck for a few weeks.

All I care about, is PVFC.

Thanks my thoughts exactly, can't fault the effort, we've all got to stay together and all have a successful season to look forward to Up the Vale

Listening to P & G on Radio Stoke. Ridiculous how many times Robins can say the same thing. 5 minutes of repetition. Now a Stoke fan on. Get em off!

They do waffle on sometimes. 🤣

I know what he means!

Cracking win that! Surely some of those performances warrant keeping their place for Saturday!

An amazing result and I hope we get Everton away In the next round.
A few performances last night that will surely mean further changes Saturday.

😂😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👏👏

We've got a squad full of very hard-working players. This makes us very difficult to beat. If we can just add that bit of composure and quality up front, we could surpass most expectations this season.

Our midfield is looking really strong, as too are our wing-back options.

Hopefully the strikers we have currently can click and start finishing the chances more often.

This time next week, we'll know the squad we have until Christmas, after the final ins and outs of this transfer window.

Nippy's quiet tonight. I wonder if he's been working on his recruitment plans [emoji1]
I think he and Treacle are drowning their sorrows

The joy of football. The misery of Saturday is quickly replaced with the ecstasy of a brilliant night in Brum. A chest bursting with pride kind of performance where you couldn't fault any one in a Vale shirt. I've woken up knackered with a sore throat but with a spring in my step. Off to Everton tonight to get the ground in but wouldn't mind a return trip with Burslem's finest in a few weeks time.

We get 45% split of the gate in a league cup game so let's call that £20 x 9000 = £180,000

So a nice little earner too, as well as a brilliant win

Adult tickets were £15 and some would have been concessions, so roughly half that I would guess.  That said, better than could have expected as this competition is often shunned by fans nowadays, and of course any prize money for winning plus another game to come!
