Match Thread: Birmingham v Port Vale (League Cup)

Fantastic result last night. Didn’t get back off holiday till late so didn’t go or watch the game and was shocked when saw the result. Heard Walter’s was a class above. He’s got to start games now surely. Maybe Darren’s not playing him till the windows shut and keeping him hidden away a little.

also great crowd last night and that little bit extra should help towards a decent forward now (or two). Really hoping we get someone through the door today.

big tie next round now. We deserve that

Walter's has had a niggle all pre-season and wasn't going to be risked until he got fitter. I think last night is one of the only games he's played the full 90 minutes so I'd be surprised if he starts at Reading.

Everyone at the Vale knows what he's capable of, knows that he will go for big money and will support him in moving to bigger and better things as it's the best thing for the player and more importantly, the club.

Let's just enjoy him while we have him.

I’d be surprised if there’s not been interest in Walters. He was immense at Blackpool and the same last night.

That said we do have good depth in midfield and Ojo has been brilliant this year, as has Croasdale. It’s hard to see how Garrity gets in, much as I like him.

Moore has said to Baggeley in the Valiant that Rhys hasn't been playing as he had a tough pre-season (his first proper one) and got a slight knock in the Bath game. He thinks he's now up to the right level.

I was a guest in hospitality last night and it was great to see all the Vale fans from another perspective.  They never stopped singing all night and were far more vocal than the Birmingham supporters and even my hosts said they were one of the loudest away followings at St Andrews. UTV - SVA.

I have to say, not a comfortable walk from the ground either, 3 of us in Vale tops walking up the road as hundreds of Brummies piling down past, not a copper in sight.

I can remember going there many years ago. Walking to the ground we were met with a hail of house bricks that came from behind a high wall. I remember a passing car that sustained a fair bit of damage. Fortunately didn't see anyone that got seriously hurt.

Midfield pick at the weekend is tough! Walters ran the show last night and deserves a start certainly, but Ojo has been our player of the season so far. And Croasdale is Mr consistency.... then Byers is back available and Garrity is club captain. What a lovely headache to have.

I don't think Shipley gets a look in to be honest. Done nothing special far to unseat any of the above.

Another irritation from the LinkedIn-Barcelona sides:

Whenever they're beaten, they can only accept it by giving backhanded compliments. Teams they lose to are always physical, direct, 'did a job on us', 'had a plan'.

This article, as an example:

Quote

Their physical direct tactics rattled Birmingham City in all the right ways. They bullied, harassed and unsettled and, in the end, it could have been 2-0, and there would have been no complaints from the home team.

They were defensively bullied from direct play and set pieces,

They genuinely must have missed our goal where we carved open their left side, and have been thinking about their lack of bin collections when Walters waltzed through their midfield to set up Curtis.

Genuinely can't stand it. They never lose because they were outplayed, it's because a) they let us win, as the manager argued who had previously reckoned he'd solved football or b) the thick luddite caveman hoofballed their way to a violent win.

We were just a better side in every department. These lads conflate insipid possession with being good, and passing it around is an inherent virtue.

Tedious outlook on football, and it's quite clear that an exceptional season has gone to their heads.

I was reading the Birmingham thread last night and one of their fans said that on Talksport earlier on in the day they were saying that we are skint.

put Garrity further forward I reckon. He's our only fit, proven, bagsman at the moment. Hate to see his goalscoring ability wasted.
