Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Current Free Agents that would add some good depth:

Coniah Boyce-Clark (GK) - Only 22 can loan out as a long-term investment

Louis Holzman (CB) - Young CB with League One experience, good depth

Dan Potts (CB) - Experienced CB with playing time at most levels, good depth

Josh Benson (DM) - Good injury cover if we can move Ojo on

Josh Koroma (FW) - Big name signing, would certainly challenge Tolaj for a starting spot

Luke Plange (FW) - Can play in multiple attacking positions, good competition alongside Rico

We can't afford or indeed need a 3rd keeper mate, we're not Chelsea.

Lets just end all arguments now and splash the cash on that one marquee signing and that is Callum Paterson now walking away from Sheff Wed I think,he can play in about 9 positions, knows DM,will cost a good wedge in wages no doubt and will have a lot of interest but use your charm on him big man 3yr deal and a bit of coaching as well.

That is all 🙂

Peterborough lose another player CB Fernandez has signed for Rangers

Also look at Orient midfielder Galbraith,24 and swansea are paying a significant fee for him, they had already turned down 1.5m off Charlton..... so if Walters has a very good season,he will be 4 years younger at the end of the season so who knows what his worth could be

The only marquee we are likely to see will be a big tent looming over the training pitch fence. Does a big time Charlie do much for team cohesion?

If you think we're getting a fee for a player who is 34 in the first month of the season and in all probability in his last season in the EFL good luck. We are more likely to have to subsidise his wages if he agrees a move. Pope got paid more by Bury than us early in his return,  Moore is still getting money off previous clubs. When Dodds returned Aspin said he was almost costing the club nothing due to the high percentage of his wage paid by Chesterfield. He may move, it may be reported as an undisclosed fee as all transfers are currently. That will not mean it hasn't cost the club a lot of money.

I perhaps didn't word it right I didn't mean I am hoping for a fee when I said im hoping we get an offer I meant someone offering to take over the remaining 12 months of his contract because we are contractually obliged to pay him for the next year so to avoid that we either need someone to take him on loan for a year and pay his wages or we need ojo to agree to rip up his contract which is unlikely unless someone else wanted to sign him rather than have him on loan but  if that was the case I would be happy to let him go for free so no fee involved.

Patterson is no big time Charlie.

On the contrary has been willing to play anywhere and be a sacrificial lamb just to get games.

Everything I've read suggests he's a good egg who cracks on despite frustration at not playing as much as he likes.

Paterson would’ve been a perfect marquee signing for us, had we not signed Waine. Yes i know he can play anywhere, but his main position is as a forward I believe and I just can’t see what good having so many forward options is going to do us

Stockley, Tolaj, Paterson, Curtis, Waine, Paton. 6 players fighting it out for 2 starting spots effectively

, "Under 21" refers to players who were born on or after January 1, 2004, for the 2024/2025 season

Its now 25/26

Sorry my mistake.  So currently we have 23 outfield players (if I haven’t missed someone) contracted to the club but can only register 22 of them.  Ojo seems the obvious one that will miss out unless someone else moves on.

1 John; 2 Debrah; 3 Heneghan; 4 Hall; 5 Hart; 6 Humphries; 7 Clark; 8 Gabriel; 9 Headley;10 Gordon; 11 Garrity; 12 Ojo; 13 Byers; 14 Plant; 15 Walters; 16 Croasdale; 17 Shipley; 18 Richards: 19 Waine; 20 Paton; 21 Stockley; 22 Tolaj; 23 Curtis

Walters is only 19 so not included.

It's a complicated rule, so easy to get wrong. The EFL normally update their handbook about now. I think it's 22 as Walters isn’t over 21.

Maybe but his main position is as a midfielder.

Theoretically possible BUT if we sign another player and you are sitting at the other end of the table you'd be gunning for a contribution to the wages. There are lots of 34 year old midfield players available for a free. Your first port of call would be Smallwood from Bradford.

Every game he played last season he played either up front, out wide (which we don’t use), or as a right wing back (where we are fully stocked).
