Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Patterson is no big time Charlie.

On the contrary has been willing to play anywhere and be a sacrificial lamb just to get games.

Everything I've read suggests he's a good egg who cracks on despite frustration at not playing as much as he likes.

I can see a scramble to get his signature

Every game he played last season he played either up front, out wide (which we don’t use), or as a right wing back (where we are fully stocked).

He's really a utility player. I've only seen him play a couple of times but I'm not convinced he's any better than Garrity. If you look at his whole career he's played every position on the field. He's basically an upgraded Will Atkinson. He's made a career out of being the next best player in 4 or 5 positions.  I'd  put a fiver on if you Google Transfermarkt.com there isn't a position he hasn't played. He's not a bad player but he's not clearly better than what we have in any position.

There was a player at Hereford maybe 15 years ago who was very similar. You watched him play and he was solid/ dependable. You'd watch us play  Herford again and think a player was solid and dependable in a different position - before you realised it was the same guy

Lets just end all arguments now and splash the cash on that one marquee signing and that is Callum Paterson now walking away from Sheff Wed I think,he can play in about 9 positions, knows DM,will cost a good wedge in wages no doubt and will have a lot of interest but use your charm on him big man 3yr deal and a bit of coaching as well.

That is all 🙂

Paterson is a feee agent anyway. I would imagine he will get another gig in the Champ.

Any of the Wednesday squad under contract can give notice and leave on a free now the club are in breach.  One of the more.. let’s say ageing players we would perhaps have an opportunity with.

I have read the players regulation section in the current EFL Hand book, being 21 on Jan 1 is important. But nowhere does it say whether it is the January before the season starts or the January in the season. I assume the year is quoted somewhere,

20 or younger from 1/1/2025 will be the cut off.

Current Free Agents that would add some good depth:

Coniah Boyce-Clark (GK) - Only 22 can loan out as a long-term investment

Louis Holzman (CB) - Young CB with League One experience, good depth

Dan Potts (CB) - Experienced CB with playing time at most levels, good depth

Josh Benson (DM) - Good injury cover if we can move Ojo on

Josh Koroma (FW) - Big name signing, would certainly challenge Tolaj for a starting spot

Luke Plange (FW) - Can play in multiple attacking positions, good competition alongside Rico

nice list, koroma would be a beast and id like holzman. i arent sure if we are going to sign anyone now then again everyone who we have signed is a free right? could it just be loans? id like to see hart (league two player) and paton (nothing against him but i cant see him being league one level) go, if we buy a player we need to buy someone whos probably THE first name on the teamsheet, who that is i dont know, think we are done with keepers though.

Hart needs to either go out on loan to League 2 or agree to mutually terminate his contract (which he won't).

Ojo needs to either be sold or have his contract mutually terminated purely because of his wage and overall attitude.

With Paton, I think we should give him until January again to make an impression as the only proper chances he was being given were as a lone striker for the majority of the games he started in, and I think he would definitely be more effective in a 2.

I would also obviously loan out Davies, Lomax and Shorrock, but would probably keep hold of Plant as a squad player as it is getting to the stage where it is now or never for his Vale career.

I think Ojo does form part of DMs plans and will be starting this season, probably in preference to Croasdale as Ojo has a better pass completion. Despite his OVF detractors he is quality at league 1 level and will hopefully come back invigorated and demonstrate his strengths.  If anyone is likely to move on from our midfield,  its Walters who is young and has shown his potential to play at a higher level. His ability and influence upon our sides success at the back end of last season will definitely have been noted. Those with a beef with Ojo should remember he was just one member of a side with shattered confidence many of whom, including Smudge, who played poorly. Granted he was vocal about Crosbys sacking but he probably only voiced the disappointment others in that squad felt. Its also possible Ojo continued to play with injury during the back end of 2024 and probably backed out of tackles to avoid aggravating injury and time on the sidelines when the team needed all of its senior players. Its worth remembering Walters was a black sheep until some outstanding performances in 24-25.

Are we just ignoring the fact that everyone else except Ojo in the squad dropped down a level in pursuit of bouncing back up straight away, whilst he stayed playing in League One?
