I dont agree with the statement of him being bang average, especially at this level but we all have opinions on players BUT i do agree that i think he will be off either in January or the summer and lets be honest that might be best for him and the club in the long run( and i really like Smith)

There is no doubt though that he has been a fantastic servant to the club and would always be welcomed back here

Yes of course he has been a great servant. I just think fans have had clouded judgement over the years at how good he has been when the majority of those years we have been pretty awful at the back!!

Let’s see who comes in for him.

It certainly won’t be league one or top end league two clubs.
That tells you everything.

When Tom Sang is played in a back three ahead of him and then Shorrock, it’s pretty obvious he isn’t wanted.

Let’s also not forget he was captain last season in what I would describe as arguably the worst Vale side in my lifetime. Not so much talent wise but actually giving full effort.
He captained a side who couldn’t care less and was woeful himself.

I wish him the best but I think at best he’s a non league defender.

Spending the last decade in the football league suggests otherwise, entitled to your opinion Spunky just like everyone else & that’s fine. For me he walks into most league two sides or at least making the bench. We have other options at the minute & as you say Moore clearly doesn’t have him in his plans. Be interesting to see what happened if say Hall got a long term injury & Heneghan a 3 match ban that’s for sure. Onto today… Into them Vale 💪🏻

Smith is a better defender than henengan, there is no reason he shouldn't be at least a bench option in L2.

I totally agree. I would also add our biggest weakness has been defence and I don’t think Nathan had the best partners alongside him last season. His first season in league 1 was generally pretty convincing and he has never been that poor in league 2. He has a proven record and should be in the squad, rumoured family issues not withstanding.

Pretty sad to see a player who gives everything for us and played I assume close to 400 games having the boot put in him this last few pages. On the face of it I’d say certain posters are taking great delight in doing so and are even enjoying the fact he isn’t playing so they can keep going in on him judging by the amount of times they’ve posted it. They probably now feel justified in their criticism over the years.

The statement coming from a man on the internet “he’s non league at best” always makes me laugh. A player making that many appearances as a football league professional is not non League at best.

I heard all about his issues this season that he’s had to contend with at home, which supposedly were a reason why he wasnt being considered, hopefully he can work his way back in the side at some point. If Moore doesn’t fancy him that’s just football. He’d walk into another league two club with his consistency, lack of injuries and how good a defender he is. If thats the case then just like all that promotion winning side from 2022 he’d get a good reception from me.

Well said pv1973 ...I agree with everything you said, there are to many keyboard warriors who've probably never kicked a ball since they left school on here, and wouldn't dare say anything to his face if they met him outside anywhere.👍👌

Great post, played near on 400 games under different managers who obviously knew his qualities. Lower league centre backs are ten a penny but successive managers chose not replace him.

I do think it has to come down to his ongoing private issue. He also probably doesn't want people knowing hence Moore dodging the subject in his interviews

Anyway smudge has been a great servant to the club, and I thank him for that. Yes last season was a complete disaster and nobody covered them selves with glory. I am sure if and when he gets his chance he will be ok.

That’s logical. I mean if he had a dreadful start of the season and slipped down the order, fair enough. But he has barely featured except a paint trophy game I think I remember seeing him?

Thats what Moore sees. He’s not very good. He’s limited.
Is it fair to say Nathan Smith is limited?
I would say so.

Moore has identified that he’s a league two defender at very best and in ten years he hasn’t improved beyond that.

I am sorry fans can’t see it.

He will be gone in January.

Limited at what?

Back to the game! Just hope we turn up ! If we can get anything from this I will be delighted! I am a bit apprehensive on this one but hope we pull something out of the bag. Come on you whites give the traveling Valiants something to bring home.

Good luck Vale today this morning purchased my first away game Harrogate away looking forward to that one immensely .

Big big game it will tell me a lot today .

These last season were tremendous ,got a very good points haul ,started slowly this season but potentially could be good again .

Not bothered about them though I am bothered our team .

Do we set out with same kind of performance as last week or do we come out the traps quickly get Paton scoring early doors and watch that  lad go then he as it I'm.sure of it that quality required for a promotion push.

I'd be playing Curtis and Chislett and I think Stockley in the air will net today as they looked a very smallish side on Tues v Arsenals kids very sprightly side though so no getting red cards Vale

I support the idea of getting rid of deadwood which wouldn't hold any value to the team in the future.

Can we get rid of the loanees please!!
