Now that our constructive OVF commentators have all vented and condemned Ripley to the bench, if not the gallows, have another few reviews of the build-up and execution of the goal (about 8:50 in) -

1. Vale giving the ball away cheaply

2. Hall in midfield getting out-muscled by Tovide despite repeatedly fouling him

3. Cover and Garrity in defence both backing off Gordon rather than getting in a solid challenge, and so giving him plenty of space to get the shot away

4. Gordon putting in a cracking shot from distance, which swerved viciously in the air as it flew

5. Ripley adjusting in mid-air to the swerving ball and only managing to palm it out rather than putting it over or round

6. Hall again getting outdone by Tovide, who reacted much quicker to the loose ball and poked it in

Once again, mostly not Ripley.

Poor ball retention and poor defensive marking from the team as a whole.

All fair points AV. Garrity could have positioned himself better to encourage/force Gordon down the line rather that let him come inside but it's so easy to talk in retrospect. Gordon could have gone down the line and crossed the ball and it could have gone in, who knows.

If you gave Hall that play again I would suspect he'd just take Tovide out.

Bitter pill to swallow but the goal was coming, we just couldn't get to grips with their changes in personnel and tactics. Vale couldn't shut down the game, perhaps the big wide pitch doesn't help.

Agreed I hate it. The adebayor one I don’t mind, if fans are abusing you for no real reason fair enough. But Tovide was a tosser all game, he’s obviously going to get stick. I don’t know how he’s not embarrassed rolling round the floor all game.

I’d absolutely hate if vale played like that. They showed second half they were half decent going forwards. If I went an away game and we were diving round everywhere and time wasting from minute 1 rather than attacking I’d be pretty naffed off.

He wasn't embarrassed as it's now lauded and encouraged to be a wind-up merchant. Every lower league dog wants to do it. The amount of 'shushing' fans has gone up exponentially in the last few years. Paton, on the pitch for about 3 mintues, was giving it to bemused Accrington fans who had the temerity to concede two late goals.

Being a wind-up merchant has now become an inherent good and it's infecting the game. Time-wasting isn't a means to an end but an end in itself. Bending the rules and restricting the amount of football being played is a virtue. Colchester fans aren't relieved they nicked a point, but actively overjoyed that they did so whilst 'winding us up'. Some of our fans, including me a few years ago, would be the same.

As a result, you have teams not timewasting as a necessary evil but as something to aim for because the lads on social media will love it. It's absolutely crap.

It felt like everything was a bit sloppy tonight. Lots of miscontrolling, lots of short or misplaced passes, lots of lackadaisical attempts at crosses. Nobody looked sharp, which you need to be when playing a team that sits in.

Like others, I'm confused by Hackford starting. I don't want to pile in on him but he's not been in games at all. Play Paton surely?

Thought Richards did well and looked direct. Curtis shows glimpses but isn't quite doing it yet.

I think everyone is disappointed as we dropped 2 points against a very poor side at home. However, 3 wins and 2 draws from the last 5 is decent enough.

I know many wont agree but from what I have seen so far I would sooner have Richards in there than BBB. As you say we know Curtis has the quality he just has to recapture that form

Yeah I did think Paton doing it was a bit weird, but Tovide’s was just next level. Imagine being a grown man diving all over the floor. Embarrassing.

I’ve never liked it and wish refs would do more to stamp it out. I’d have booked their keeper for time wasting first half, and booked tovide for the one where the ref had to force the physios to come on.

It’s weird also as you say that Colchester fans seem to love it. If I’d travelled all the way to Colchester to watch vale do that rather than try and win the game I’d be fuming. Absolutely awful to watch.

Isn’t he a striker?

What’s been your best Rico Richards moment so far?

Not digging the lad out but there’s no way in this world should Paton be sat on the bench over him or Hackford.

Darren Moore may just be the most frustrating manager we will ever have.

I aren't sure if he is a striker or a wide player tbh ST but as you say I would be starting Paton over both of them(he needs a run of games to get going imo),if we are to play with a two up top then lets start Paton and Stockley and stick with it for a few games

I think it's better that fans don't lock into a certain view (Moore is good/Moore is bad) and defend that come what may. It gets very silly. Changing minds is for the best.
At the minute it's a bit uncertain. We're 30 games in to the Moore tenure and only now beginning to see a few signs of progress, but that's tempered with some very silly problems which need to get sorted pretty quickly. This squad should probably be playing a bit better than it is. We enter the latter stages of most games holding onto points.
Notts County is the fabled '10th game' and we'll likely be between 5th-10th, which is absolutely fine but it's very hard to argue at present that Moore is adding a great deal. He had bad players last year and they continued to be bad, and he has good players this year who are good but not anything more.
Wednesday fans said they were never convinced or enamoured, but he sort of bundled over the line with a massive budget after falling short in the playoffs at the first attempt. That's sort of where I'm sitting - he's doing OK, he'll probably take us up at some point by virtue of outspending everyone else, other managers might do better but it probably isn't worth the risk of changing any time soon in case we get it wrong.

Your post sums up Darren Moore in a nutshell

Four more years!

clearly mentioning 4 more years is your pathetic attempt to yet again get a reaction which it has done from me

I cant be arsed check but i would love to know how many posts you and another poster(who has constantly digged at DM during this match thread) make on a winning match thread compared to when we lose or draw.

If you look along the mowing line which goes through the penalty spot, Tolaj looks to be played on by their centre-back nearest to him.

And the ref's assistant who gave it offside is nowhere in shot.

This incident seems to have escaped from the highlights reel, so cannot review it in motion in addition to this still.

He was 100% offside. Liner was in line.

Based on what evidence?

That picture seems to show otherwise.

On the subject of Tovide,he is actually highly rated and a few clubs have been watching him, surely they cant be impressed by his antics

Having a clear out of some of my Vale programmes and found this one v Crystal Palace which was the last time we won a league match at home on a Tuesday night. ! 🙃

Regardless of his antics he was crud.

Draw a line under it let's hope on sat he chooses the players who can make a difference .

I fail to see is thinking if Hackford selected again .

BBB and Richards or Curtis going at them from the sides and Paton getting a nod from Queens Park to playing Notts County away in front of I'd say if they got 16 thousand v Gillingham it's 17 v us .

I might even consider playing a extra midfielder because you cannot allow to be over run at any point .

Watched them v Grimsby ,was very impressed with there fluiditygoing forwards, at back they looked shaky though so on sat no waiting for them take control of game we better go for it from the off.

I'm.sure we are capable, these are the games you want to be part of the matchday experience

It's about time our fans saw a win , in a game where a huge following is going .

Let's look at last season Derby lost 3-0 ,Bolton 2-0 Fleetwood 3 -0 there's 3 examples of very good followings who had nowt crow about when returning home and not even a goal celebrate.

So I'm hoping the 1900,plus the ones in home end ,see Vale play how they can at full pelt.

It's a perfectly good goal

The footballing gods decided no win   for Vale last night .

It's gone .

A point apiece shouldn't be relying on a linesman flag should have took control of game at 1-0 up and showed them we a very good side, who can rack up 2 and 3 or 4 goals in a home game on Tues night .the fact we scored then for me lost our way was extremely disappointing.

We better than that I hope moving forwards.
