What what can you not understand

Richards showed tremendous footwork in that 10 minutes after half time we needed take over the game and keep feeding him the ball.

Instead we let there lot have it

Garrity playing deeper is an absolute waste of everybody's time, including his own. His strengths other than his engine are his finishing and his movement in the final third. Not passing, creating etc.

I wont ask again, can you please stop being sensible as i have to keep liking your posts and i dont like it

Because that's what Ripley does he could t catch a cold he's not good enough

The manager hasn't covered himself in glory either he didn't react to there  changes

Tbf after reading through this thread it looks like he made the subs that a lot on here were asking for,he cant really control how Ripley deals with that shot but he now has to show his metal,he has dropped others after a poor game so he now needs to give Amos a run of a few games

For a Tues night it's about average so no complaints with the support

Yes your right home has been a poor place for a very long time especially when we get punters in .

I still think we played very within ourselves last night .

We have far more about us than we showed last night .

Hopefully sat we will unleash Paton with Stockley, and I think we need be cleverer and play a extra midfielder in midfield ,when ahead as we have enough about us with BBB Curtis and Richards to give opposition plenty to worry about.

Playing Sang with Cover ok it worked v Swindon ,but it didn't last night as obviously Cowley had watched us ,and saw there was no threat whatsoever from that side till Richards come on so I have to ask the question why not go for it from the off .

A braver manager starts with Richards and once 3 ahead we can go to metholodical.

As I said before, many of my posts I was attempting to wind a few others up a bit. But it was a ball ache for everyone, including myself, and I probably wound myself up more than anyone else.

Back to Garrity, the manager has made it difficult for himself as Ben is captain and you can't really bench your captain as long as he's fit. But when Byers is missing, him and Croasdale will offer absolutely nothing in regards to creativity in the middle of the park. With Tolaj still adapting, Hackford not looking ready for first team football and Paton seemingly not yet fancied by Moore, it just makes sense to play Garrity off Stockley. That leaves Byers, Croasdale and Sang for those two midfield positions.

This sat is the 10th league game in. Get ready with yer Big D assessments emoji3.png
We are sort of doing ok but we should be doing better kind of feelings from everyone atm, with a fair amount of bewilderment thrown in.
Saturday is against one of the league big boys so, as always, it will be interesting to see how we are set up and starting 11.
On a side note, anyone done the figures for points lost from conceeding goals in the last 15 minutes from the last couple of years? Must be a fair old amount I'd wager.

I'd say we haven't got over 3rd gear yet. While that's dissapointing, we're currently 7th and unbeaten in 5. So it can also be seen as a positive. I think we all just want to see us score more goals. It really shouldn't be an issue with players like Stockley, Garrity, Chislett, Tolaj and Curtis. But for whatever reason it just hasn't clicked yet. Hopefully yet is the key word.

At risk of getting absolute pelters for this wonder if Conor Grant might come into the reckoning for a midfield spot now? Gives a ball playing option in there and so long as you have a willing runner in Croasdale or Garrity alongside him can probably cover for his lack of speed.

Do you think playing 5 at the back is the way forward because I don't , we should be setting our stall out to attack and then go from there not be cautious from the start come on Darren Moore be more adventurous 👌

Colchester have been thoroughly tonked playing away today, so may well come and park the bus at ours on Tuesday.

Hope we can get an earlier breakthrough than today, so they are chasing the game.

I think it was difficult to predict the extent that Colchester parked the bus. It was their first 5-3-2 of the season and up until this game they have been the team in lg2 that have had the most shots.

It's obvious or course but bears repeating - simply not enough goals being scored because you can't hope to keep a clean sheet every game to win by one goal. You need to be looking to score several.

Not Ripley.

He was at full stretch to make a good save.

Poor ball retention and poor defensive marking.

Now that our constructive OVF commentators have all vented and condemned Ripley to the bench, if not the gallows, have another few reviews of the build-up and execution of the goal (about 8:50 in) -

1. Vale giving the ball away cheaply

2. Hall in midfield getting out-muscled by Tovide despite repeatedly fouling him

3. Cover and Garrity in defence both backing off Gordon rather than getting in a solid challenge, and so giving him plenty of space to get the shot away

4. Gordon putting in a cracking shot from distance, which swerved viciously in the air as it flew

5. Ripley adjusting in mid-air to the swerving ball and only managing to palm it out rather than putting it over or round

6. Hall again getting outdone by Tovide, who reacted much quicker to the loose ball and poked it in

Once again, mostly not Ripley.

Poor ball retention and poor defensive marking from the team as a whole.

Ripley's there to keep the ball out the net

He switched off and it cost us a goal

But the same happened with sang against swimdon the players need to be stronger mentally

Think the issue with Ripley is that he isn't being asked to do a great deal at the minute, and is still making a dog's dinner of it.

He should have done better with the shot. I can forgive it if he's bailing us out other times in the game, but when it's the only thing he's been required to do, then he's going to be criticised if he doesn't do a good job.

My bigger issue is that he is completely rooted to his line. The value of a goalkeeper decisively claiming a cross (Chris Neal was a master) is massive. He never does it unless it's uncontested, directly at him. He then creates more pressure for us to deal with through his lack of proactivity.
