That system should work for a club Vale's size as ultimately DM is responsible for the first team, tactics, performance and results, the buck stops with him. It's even more responsibility for DM so I hope he's good at delegating and is given the extra help needed. 

Wasn’t the former DoF in charge of the academy, pitch improvements, medical staff and training facilities too?. Don’t remember it being said that Will Ryder (head of the academy?) would be reporting into DM , indeed Matt Hancock actually eluded to their being collective decisions eg determining where best to invest income from the sale of academy players.  It was certainly clear DM would be in charge of first team matters and recruitment for sure,  but don’t recall any of the other accountabilities the old DoF had being mentioned.

The very fact that Carol has taken a step back should be a warning light to the  "Vocal" minority of Vale fans who think they have carte blanche to do and say what they like with no personal responsibility.
Carol taking a step back may or may not be the right thing but the last thing PVFC wants in the near future is another step back which could be a step away.

Carol is the owner. She doesn't need the grief. Matt Hancock, as Chief executive, says he is responsible overall. And that is right.

Would you want to play for Darren Moore? Of course you would.

Would you want to play for Flitcroft or AC? Not too sure, which is why we ended up with this crock of crap players

Absolutely right too. Hope he sticks around, because he's a huge asset to the club and clearly knows his stuff.

Exactly.  These people, CoE’s, CEO’s etc, are appointed to primarily take pressure off the owners so let them get on with it.

Things clearly became very toxic between the club and fans over the course of the season and the pressure on the Shanahans must’ve been intense.  It’s pressure we don’t have as fans on the terraces.  We have the emotional attachment but can walk home after the game and don’t have to worry about running the business, being castigated on social media and all the rest of it.  Anyway, we all need a reset and Carol stepping out of the limelight just now is a natural part of that, there’s nothing stopping her from becoming more visible again once the dust has settled and I for one really hope to see her at our open day, kit launch or whatever, for my annual selfie.
