I know that Kyle Perry took a pay cut to sign for Vale from Chasetown.

That’s actually true, I remember that but I believe that was because he gave up a full time job in IT that paid well.

Smurthwaite hasn't had any involvement in football for five years. He sold both Port Vale and Liberty Way (Northwich Victoria's stadium). I've not heard of any creditable reports of him getting back involved in football, let alone a club the size of Tranmere Rovers.

If my Tranmere mate tells me any more I will pass on 😁

What happened to Nuneatons ground?

Smurthwaite bought it in 2018. He then sold it in 2019 to another party which had been formed by someone called Neil Robinson, a Nuneaton sponsor.

The current owners (Arden Tigress - not sure if this is the party NS sold it to or subsequent owners) decided to deny Nuneaton Borough access without any warning in Oct 2023 forcing Nuneaton to ground share elsewhere.

At present, no-one uses the stadium hence this article:

At 71 Mark Palios is at an age when he might want to walk away. Carol Shenahan is 66. There are owners who carry on for much longer of course. Down to health and personal choice and of course wealth.

Well, to be fair. OVF covers a fair number of topics and no-one is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing you to read them all. So, with respect, if you aren't interested, that's absolutely fine, just ignore it.

However, to answer the question "who cares" - enough users to generate 7,000+ views of the topic and 30+ replies, so it clearly does interest some users.

I'm sorry if that in any way sounds condescending - it's really not meant to be. I'm just trying to make the point that although not everything on here will interest everyone, the interest in this topic suggests that while it's not interesting you, others do find it interesting.

Yes, whilst I'm a Port Vale supporter I do have a strong interest in Tranmere as well as my local club and one my friends support. Tranmere dropped down to the National League a few years ago and climbed back via a Wembley playoff. It would hurt the local community if a numbskull took over and wrecked the club again. Hence I am interested in this thread and any news / insight that can be garnished about the situation. I have lived on the Wirral for 37 years.

As you say people don't have to read and comment on everything. Just ignore what doesn't interest.

Does anyone really have a choice to get involved with Norman? Did we? The common factor is he will only get involved with desperate clubs who have no real choice.
We didn't know what he was like though did we. In fact, he was sound at first.

Surely, it should be in the 'other football matters or past section'. As it/he has nothing to do with the port vale present.

It's relevant to PVFC, I don't think it really matters what section it's in, except obviously if it was somewhere else it would get less traction.

I am rather surprised at the interest and engagement in the topic, but I guess for many it's some kind of morbid curiosity. I've long since moved on from the days of Norman, so I don't particularly care what he's up to. Saying that, it is a little strange if he is interested in Tranmere of all clubs. I'm surprised he's had any success at all in business endeavours given his time with us and if he's looking at a club like Tranmere.

It's not relevant to us at all. That bloke is well and truly in port vale past. As far as I'm concerned.

Well his interest in Tranmere isn't strange if you know who their commercial manager is!

Thanks.

That is a fair point and I'm going to action that.

I think the most appropriate section (as it's Tranmere) is "Other Football Issues"

I didn't actually notice the section it was in as I was navigating to it via the "Hot Topics" section on the RH sidebar.
