Valid question - how did it come to this?

I stood in Cambridge Utd's pothole strewn car park this week, watching my car being washed and looking around at the portakabins, occasional skip and other assorted junk, not to mention their second rate ground and asked myself the very same question.

This season, in addition to Okenabirhie, Cambridge added Ahadme (top scorer on loan from Ipswich), Kachunga, Kaikai and Lyle Taylor. These five have scored 33 goals for them in 128 appearances, goals that look virtually certain to keep them up. Last game, ironically, they put three past Wigan.

Cambridge have smaller attendances than we do - and I infer, a smaller budget - and yet they had seemingly little difficuly in adding forwards to their squad having lost Smith and Knibbs to Reading in the summer. So we are entitled to ask some searching questions about striker recruitment. Cambridge are a well managed club, a community club, and they have an unrelenting focus on what happens on the pitch first and foremost.

To me, therefore, our owners have got to have a serious look at where their priorities lie. This season may be too late (let's hope and pray not) but next season needs a complete change of focus. If not, we can expect more of the same.

I'd love to know exactly what the process was, that's assuming there was a process.

According to a post just read on another fans forum you can pay on the day .

At there club shop yet im positive I read only yesterday's Update no sales on day which too me is absolutely absurd.

Why is it absurd well what if you were due in work but its quiet and all of a sudden you can go now or you have woke up and decided you want  to go now .

Big game first goal ever so important .

I think we have left ourselves too much too do 2-1 Wigan.

Hope I'm wrong.

Away followers have a great day regardless

Match day! Come on Vale 💪🏻 SVA Point minimum required

Genuinely think it's ( another must win ).

Cheltenham are at home to Carlisle on Tuesday and we go to Posh on Wednesday.

I'd take matching their points haul over the next 2 games then we have 3 of the last 4 at Fortress Vale Park !

Need 3 points today and hope Orient do us a favour. The midweek turnaround doesn't look promising ' on paper ' .

Despite our ground having fantastic facilities in the Lorne street, decent concourse in the Hamill, being a bigger capacity, all seated and nice flat tarmac…. it just proves that it doesn’t really matter where we go and watch our teams. Their smaller ground arguably generates a decent atmosphere, especially being standing and crammed in, yet I’m sure they aren’t much different to us in terms of attendances. We are struggling with the move of home fans to generate a decent atmosphere (maybe that’s down to the performances on the pitch too). But that’s by the by because their owners have put the money where it counts, on the pitch. And it will probably see them safe. But not only the forward players, I’ll say it til I’m blue in the face, we have no decent fullbacks or wingbacks, we should have brought Gibbo back in too even if only til the end of the season. Rumour was he was set to rejoin permanently in August but it fell through. So why, knowing where we stood in fullback and forward areas didn’t we strengthen? Personally i think it was a money issue because we didn’t even strengthen anywhere, especially up front which was probably more important. Granted Cambridge is a more desirable area of the country to live in to attract players, but still our owners dropped the ball massively this last 18months. We might look at clubs like Cambridge who on the surface based on facilities are “smaller”, but I don’t think clubs like that necessarily are, they probably just have their priorities a bit more straight than our owners have recently.

I feel 3 home wins & a point on the road may just be enough. Home wins are no gimme though our form at Vale park hasn’t been great this season.

Anything is a bonus to me. I've resigned myself to it and amazed we still have a chance.

I just can't see us winning 4 successive homes including Bristol.

I suspect the process was so convoluted it didn't leave any time for action. DF over complicated everything all style and no substance.  By the time we have analysed all the stats and held meetings to identify who we want someone else has already signed them.

I watched the game against Northampton and we were lifeless in my opinion and this is now a must win game but I expect sicknote Wilson to be missing which means we rely on Loft and what appears to be an extremely unfit ikpaezo

I got the impression we were tired. Uche wont be match fit yet he is a big lad who needs to be playing to stay fit so his recent injury problems haven't left him in the best place but he is still capable of tying defenders up and is strong enough to hold the ball up its up to our midfielders to get around him and pick up the bits.

Wigan away is my local game.

Good pubs near the station are The Raven, Swan and Railway and Wigan Central, all about 15 minutes walk to ground.

If you like your pie's I can't recommend Galloways enough, it puts Wright's pie's to shame.

I've heard they eat pies in bread in Wigan... What's that all about??
