Is Wynne still with us?

I've heard some suggestions that he's gone. I guess as this is a rumours thread and I've got no proof of it, I'm OK to post it

I actually think Heneghan has been signed as experienced cover for Smith and Hall which we did need. As the only cover was the inexperienced Debrah. Hall already provides the Height. A very good signing non the less and completes our requirements in central defence.

I think Heneghan is nailed on for a spot in that defence. He’s everything we didn’t have last season - someone who can head it, kick it and bloody boot it.

I’d go for this based on the current squad.

                       Ripley
    Clark - Heneghan - Hall - Hart

            Byers    Croasdale

      Chislett     Garrity   Curtis

                       Tolaj

Subs: Amos, Smith, Ojo, Plant, Paton, Stockley, Dipepa

That then leaves us with nine pros who perhaps won’t touch the match day squad if everyone is fit.

Davies, Lomax, Jones, Debrah, Lowe, Grant, Sang, Shorrock, Buah,

Out of them above, you’d think Jones, Lowe, Grant would be available for a permanent transfer and Buah, Davies, Lomax being sent out on loan for some game time. Then Sang, Debrah and Shorrock on the edge of every match day squad.

Huge testament to Vale for the recruitment so far. RB & RW to go, and we are flying.

Why do you think we should sign Robbie Williams?

Looks great to me, I’m erring just initially on Stockley up top to beat up the opposition defenders and then bring on the likes of Paton and Tolaj to give them hell later on. Perfectly comfortable though if anyone else wants to go Tolaj or Paton in that spot mind depending on the opposition.

It’s not a bad conundrum to have at all. I’d imagine Stockley or Tolaj will be competing initially, with Paton being eased into the fold slightly. Not forgetting Dipepa either - he was fearless towards the back end of last season, highlighted by his goals against Exeter and Bristol Rovers.

I don’t think head, it kick it and bloody boot it was the only issue, we had players that could manage that but didn’t have the pace, quality or speed of thought to be decent at League1 level.  The majority should be fine in league 2.

Couldn't we still sign more over 21's if we didn't register those players we dont want?

Yeah. We would really be going for it if we were doing that though 😅

WUM
Don't worry bud, I won't recognise them either.

Either:

Clark Heneghan Hall Hart

Croasdale Byers

Chislett Garrity Curtis

Stockley/Tolaj

OR

Smith Heneghan Hall

Clark Croasdale Byers Hart

Garrity

Stockley Tolaj/Paton/Dipepa

For me the second team looks stronger.

I honestly don’t see in what shape or form the second team even comes close to the first one. Everything that has been done so far screams back four. Smith at RCB is just horrendous as he can’t do anything with the ball at his feet and the 10 spot needs to be a Chislett type to feed the strikers than a workhorse like Garrity.

In summary 4-2-3-1 or maybe 4-1-3-2 is the way forward for this squad as the base formation.

442
Rippers
Clark smith hall hart
Byers garrity ojo curtis
Tolaj stockley.

Fluid system, chiz sang plant bayley paton and defenders as required

What I think should stand us in good stead going into the new season (if DM demonstrates tactical flexibility) is that there are a lot of possible formations with strong first 11s and decent sub options - everyone above has shown variations of 5-3-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1. I quite like the 5-2-3 Micky Adams used when he came in.

                  Amos

      Heneghan Smith Hall

Clark    Garrity   Byers    Hart

   Curtis    Stockley    Tolaj

Subs: Ripley, (John/new FB), Debrah, Croasdale, Paton, Chislett, Dipepa

Can't even fit in the 18: Plant, Shorrock, Ojo, Lomax, Sang, Jones, Grant, Lowe

I think with the number and quality of forwards we have, as well as quality of Curtis as a winger, we're either going to see 4-4-2, or 4-2-3-1 with Tolaj and Dipepa being used as wingers/in behind the main striker

Can anyone who's seen the pre-season games say where DM has been playing Garrity? I just have a feeling he will use him alongside Byers as a box-to-box CM rather than behind the striker...

4-1-3-2 all the way for me Gups 👍🏻 I do think we will bring Kyle John in soon, my team at Salford would be…

                        Amos

  Clark     Heneghan    Hall    John

                      Byers (c)

       Chizzy    Garrity    Curtis

                 Paton     Tolaj

Subs.. Ripley. Smith. Hart. Croasdale. Plant. Stockley. Dipepa

Just my personal preference but I see why some would start Stockley etc
