Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Hall started League 1 quite well. He then went through a spell where he tried to get infront of his forward to intercept the ball and was getting turned.  Jones came in and played well. Can't remember who got injured but Jones moved into the centre and we had quite a good run defensively for a couple of months before Hall got sold. He was poor for a month. Better players did find a weakness which may have come from his earlier career in midfield but he'd rectified that when he got back into the team.

My question from Colchester is can he play in a 2 in a back 4. He started life as a midfielder and leftback. Last year was probably his first season in a back 4. He does like getting forward and being involved in attacking play. That's restricted if you have play with 2 centrehalves. Also how much did the captaincy affect him, I think it reduced Smith by about 20%.

Hall never really made the step up to League One like most of the side which is one of the reasons why we got rid in January.

Jones never had a good spell for Vale.

To be honest, I would have liked to have seen someone better than Hall come in but can not complain at this level giving Hall another go again

We're a League Two team now, you know? Hall has already proven himself at this level, and we never even managed to replace him.

Hall also is a great partnership with Smith. I can’t see this not working out, they compliment each other well.

Colchester have had a few grim seasons in recent years, which surprises me as they appear a well run club for league 2.

They say he went down hill when given the captaincy,he is still a good player imo and personally I would sooner have him than Yak

Colchester think Theo Robinson is decent, so I’ll reserve judgement on their views towards players.

Could it be Greg Leigh from Oxford? 29 yo left back

Some of their fans reckon he's leaving

And the manager was in the press yesterday giving a reason why he won't be pictured in Oxford's start of pre-season training this week

I know he's closer to the camera in the 2nd photo of yours above (Dougal, the ones out there are farrrr away) but he's 5'9 and Debrah is 6'1 which tallies.

That’s another great shout that is! His stance would suggest he’s a left footed player possibly. Would be a fantastic signing if it was him as I can’t see him dropping down to league 2 really

I see someone on FB (so take it with a pinch of salt) says that they have heard Smith is having a medical in Stockport on Friday in a 300k deal 🙂 oh and that Ripley is off(that's more realistic with Amos signing a 2yr deal)

Cant see it being him mate after playing internationals this summer and Oxford giving him an extra 2 weeks off I cant see him coming to train here sadly, good player though

So they say 👀

He gave away a pen in one of those games for Jamaica so he'd be right at home as a Vale full back

Why does Smith need a fresh start?

I think it is quite obvious that there will be some out goings that's for sure

Smithy would be integral in league 2 for us. He’s proven time & time again he’s a brilliant defender at that level. But if someone’s offering 300k it’s an offer we couldn’t refuse.

Why wait until Friday if all the negotiations are done? I guess Matt Hancock must have misspoke in his interview last week when he said we’d not received any offers for any of our players.

I actually love Smith but as you say anywhere around 300k you have to snap their hand off and i do think we could replace him with that money
