That’s a huge fee for a club like York. Shows you what figures are knocking about even in that league and conference south/north. They survived relegation by one point also. They would’ve had to sell him if they had gone down surely.

If they paid £300k for him, what kind of fee would they be looking for now when he's currently less than a year into his contract

They will easily be looking to double their money and it looks like the Chairman is trying to push the price up further as well

I think Bristol's reasons for not offer a be more are sound. Hopefully our medical didn't miss anything with his ACL injury.

Gone of the days where you had a good scouting network and you could sign a player for £5,000. Any decent player In those leagues now are £300,000 - £500,000. There are some very good players knocking about the national north. I’d like see us take a chance on one of these under Darren Moore. Boston have a lad called Jimmy Knowles who I’ve been told is certainly worth another shot at league football.

650k was being banded about yesterday I think?  I wouldn't be surprised if Vale made an enquiry reading between the lines and have politely been told to get stuffed and/or York's valuation of him is a bit ridiculous/more than we want to pay.  That said I don't blame them he's probably their best player and scored the goals that basically kept them up, you can't put a price on that from York's point of view.

Always strikes me as funny that we're all too willing to say things like this but, when we think about Garrety or Chissie leaving if someone came in for him/them - well, we'll only get £3-400k for him.

Also, if Bailey does get bought for squilions, will that give us the budget to shell out on a player like this...??

I'd love someone like that to come to Vale Park, not only to score (hopefully) a bg full of goals, but excite the crowd with that sort of arrogant attitude.  Can see him running on to a cross from Curtis, smashing it in the net at the Hamil and running straight over to the Railway paddock for the adoration! 😍

BUT, deals can be done on something like that...??  £3-400k now, another £200 if he makes "X" appearances or scores "Y" goals - plus a sell-on clause if we sold him to a club in the Championship/Prem...??

Of course that said I'd guess the caveat with Akinyemi maybe he's 26 nearly 27 already. Less time to get a move further up the pyramid if he signs a say 3 year deal with us and only turns out average they don't get any add ons.  They'd probably want more upfront than if he was say 20-24 as they have more sell on/add on value perhaps?   From our point of view paying over 500k for someone at that age is more a gamble as well.

Rather than a lot of cash upfront - would they accept a player plus cash deal for him?

We've certainly got a fair few we'd be happy to get rid of!
