The terrible squads in league Two were playing against other terrible squads in league 2.

Although bad, there was always 2/3 noticeably worse than us.

These last two relegations from league 1 have, in my opinion, been when we have had the worst squad in the league. In both occasions we had a reasonable start. The Bruno one I think by luck really, but this time it was because two loans added so much quality we were a mid table side. Once they left and we did the terrible business we did in Jan, whilst clubs below us went and did something meaningful in the window, we became the worst team in the league. Even Carlisle who are shocking beat us once we decided our own fate in Jan.

We tried really hard to do the same thing last season.

With that in mind, I do give Darren Moore a little bit of slack. But in all my time he's the most uninspiring manager I think we've ever had and we've had some shockers. I can't even bring myself to watch his interviews so God knows what the so called football players think.

His game plan and tactics are nonsense, subs are strange, line ups often strange, game management is non existent. I have no real faith he's the man we need to make a serious go of it next year and to be honest after around 20 years of a ST I'm not that interested in purchasing one next year to see how he gets on.

We had a good start? Lost 7-0 away at Barnsley on the opening day of the season. One of the worst results in the Club's history.

OK but we then followed it with a very good run.

Then won 5 of the next 6. So yes all in all we actually had a decent start to the season.

5-1-1 was a dream start. Beyond our wildest expectations. Even more so after walking out of Barnsley when the 5th went in.

You can't forget Barnsley but 16 points from opening 7 games is a fantastic start in any league.

The one thing that i dont like about him is he always says Vale and not we,like Vale have to go there instead of WE have to go there, that is lacking a connection for me unless it's just something he does and did it at his other clubs...... very odd though

Came on the pitch against Burton and Bristol Rovers but disappears down the tunnel when we lose.

As I say certain things he does gets to me,i aren't giving him everything,it just seems from the outside that his heart might not be here

I want him to stay but does he want to? I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks

What I will say is managers disappearing down the tunnel when a team loses isn't a new thing

Looking at results, we were holding our own until New Year. Since then the wheels have come off. Lost the good young players and failed to replace with equivalent. Injuries. Inability to score or defend properly. We've been in a crash dive. It does make me angry, because we didn't need to be that much better than we are to have garnished a good wedge of points.

Let's suppose we had retained Ellis Harrison and he scored the same number of goals as last season with Garrity and Chislett at their level and more recently Dipepe coming through. We would be in mid table and therefore the gross mistake in not retaining or signing a striker who scores is stark.

I can see Darren Moore is a good manager. He's not been able to get defenders who can't defend and strikers who don't score to perform better. It's because they are not good enough. The defence in the first few mins v Wycombe were taking the P. I nearly walked out after Wycombe scored. The whole team were taking the P v Exeter in the second half. And so it goes on, including super hero Smith passing to the opposition striker from our defensive free kick in his first game at home.

I am hoping he will be in charge next year, and head up a promotion season. If he leaves, it will seriously bring into question whether I renew my season ticket. I'm not up at all for another manager appointment, and don't think that would end well.

Very well said, Warren.

Darren has been in charge for three months.

His coaching staff have been in place for a month and a half.

They inherited a squad of players whose weaknesses are, without belabouring the point, self-evident for all to see.

And they did so with no opportunity to change or add to that squad.

Pep Guardiola and his Man City coaching staff would have also struggled to turn this situation around on those terms.

However this season turns out, Darren and his coaching staff merit a good close season transfer window and a long pre-season preparation in which to work with the revised squad.

The first half of next season is the testing period that will begin to show what they can do for Port Vale FC.
