Smith is better, more useful and more resilient than Grant, Lowe, Jones, Massey, Loft, Uche, Sang, and probably others. We have other priorities.

He certainly wasn't in the last game. And I never said he was alone in being crap, as he most certainly isn't.

Smith has been mucked about by the style of football Flitcroft seemed hell bent on introducing,  in my opinion he's been hung out, he's an out and out defender nothing flash just hard and rugged, he's not a ball playing centre half.

The criticism of Saturdays mistake is probably justified but if the referee had been as pedantic as he was all game he would have moved the free kick further back and closer to the touchline where the foul took place, he would also have booked Taylor for kicking the ball away.

Not defending the lad but he should have enough credit in the bank, his confidence must be shot trying to play like  Paolo Maldini,  if we are intent on blame the management are just as culpable not playing to his strengths.

Smithy is not a PL2 player as 'Flickers' would like. It is not so long ago he was our player of the year and many were really hoping he didn't leave for pastures new. It was an awful mistake Saturday, granted. For me, I respect his time and work at Vale and yes, he does have credit in the bank as far as I'm concerned. It's a mess.

Spot on.  I also thought their goal celebration was completely OTT.  It was pretty much a tap into an unguarded net, celebrated as though it was a 40 yard match winner at Wembley.  Shame Ted wasn’t there to chase their player off.

It really shouldn't be beyond an experienced professional footballer to pass the ball a short distance with his foot.

I don't care about loyalty I care about players playing well he is only at the club as no other team would have him and he will play for peanuts .

Absolute rubbish footballer turns up occasionally.

I'd sack him today get him gone

Short term memory. Was voted player of the season by over NINTY PER CENT of our supporters last year. You know better than all of us?

I’m not expecting Smith to play like Paolo Maldini but it would be really nice if he looked like him. 🥰

My biggest gripe with Smith is that he's just not improved much, if at all, since he first started playing for us. He's still just as woeful with the ball at his feet. Does he not practice passing ever? Nobody should expect him to slowly turn into a prime Xabi Alonso, but his actual footballing ability even for a centre-back is comical at times. He does alright against big blokes that can't run, but any striker with any sort of pace, athleticism or finesse gives him kittens. I just don't think he's ever got any better in the aspects of his game that are really poor, and I certainly don't think he's up to this level.

Christ, you can't hold the fact that he plays for us as a mark against him!
