January Transfers and Rumours

The absolutely farcical striker market is in evidence again as Will Goodwin is subject to £400k bids from Oxford.

He's pretty decent and young, but it's £400k for 6 goals and a bit of potential, these days. Imagine what a 'proven goalscorer' as we often bang on about fetches.

Their is a 19 year old player at Tottenham Hotspur of London called Jamie Donley.

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media are saying that Jamie Donley is signing for Port Vale on loan until the end of the season

Thanks for the sarcastic response 🙄

Can’t see him getting game time at Plymouth unless they have injury problems.

Devine has replaced a loanee from Everton who has gone back due to injury.

Plymouth are 8 points above the bottom 3. They need to push on in the remaining games to stay clear of trouble. I think Devine will get regular sub appearances to start with and if he develops could get starts. He's not gone to a club cruising and will get good real life experience.

That’s the problem. You can’t build teams around players who leave after a few months back to their parent clubs. Loans should be support acts, but Arblaster and Devine have been key men. Develop the players yes, but we have relied on them a lot for our best results.

We haven't built a team around a couple of successful loanees...can't be done with having a limit on how many can figure in a squad...but, the loanees have certainly enhanced the team and I'm ok with that. More of the same for the future, please!! I think Ollie and Alfie being recalled and sent to a higher level is a testament to how well they've done with us, which will give the top clubs much more confidence in the Vale? As for the couple that didn't work out? Surprised at Kofi, as he's worked with AC before - but, maybe having to play in a defence making mistakes affected his confidence, too? As for Josh Thomas, some of us are disappointed that didn't work out, either...but maybe the next one will? Nothing is certain in any transfer deal.

So where do we find ourselves at the halfway point of the window. For me, we still need a lwb, maybe some rwb cover if plants injury is long term, a CB to cover Williams inevitable injury, two midfielders and at least one striker.

We've lost the two best players from a team that already wasn't performing particularly well, do we have enough time left to right the ship?
