Sentinel article with Funso Ojo

Interesting interview with Funso Ojo. Rues the January move of Connor Hall and the lack of a suitable replacement. Also talks about some complacency that we were doing ok and took a while for the decline to register. Pretty much sums up what most of us were feeling. Given DC’s regard for Connor Hall, I wonder who sanctioned his move in January rather than waiting until the end of the season. If DF is head of all football matters then presumably him, or was he overruled by Carol’s sentiments. Time to reset and prioritise our stability.

Did we get a fee for Hall? Even so, it was another wage off the budget along with Walker and Charsley. We didn’t have to sanction it, and being a miserable cynic I don’t buy the “family club” angle being the reason why we let him go. But we can all see the reasons why we started to go downhill, I’m surpised Ojo was allowed by the media team to say all that actually.

Perhaps he wasnt sanctioned by media team, but is an honest guy - given his comments, I wonder if he knows he wont be with us next year? Personally I hope the Funso stays

It was good to read this. Hall had presence; something difficult to define, but in very short supply in our entire squad. 

His absence in the team also exposed others around him; they had an extra load to carry.

I definitely think that there was also an implicit message of job done, so following the efforts of all of 2022, there was a bit of a relaxing.

The combination of the two has led to where we are now.

Many on here drew attention to this trend, but were shouted down. At the time, I wouldn't have predicted the alarming dip of the past few months.

I hope the lessons have been learned.

We’ve missed Connor Hall but he wasn’t the be all n end all.  His next comment is far more telling,

“Also, the fact that most of us thought we were safe and thought we were going to finish in the top 12. Teams started picking up points and we just didn’t win any more, it is that simple. If you’re not winning….we didn’t even get many draws in between.”

Sounded to me like he’s been reading comments on this forum.  🙄

Once you are on a slope it is difficult to stop the slide, quite useful to have a frank review by a player. The manager had gone stale was the view of a Leicester player for their demise since the World Cup break. I don't think it is that simple, in most clubs  there are usually  lots of things going on, as discussed in other threads. ,

Funso is under contract for another season isn't he. 

Basically, we have run out of money (hence Carol's comment we spent 5 seasons money in 4 seasons)

So no money in January window. Also suspect this Summer wont be exciting in the transfer window due to cost of new drainage.

None of the above is criticism of Carol as she has made it clear we have limited funding but I do suspect the money spent on new players from last Summer to the New Year was largely wasted.

Once we clear out all these league 2 players who are on league 1 wages we should be able to get better players in the summer. Plus the money saved since January will hopefully be spent next season.
