The issue for me is Barton is speaking for the player, not the player speaking for himself.

I'm sure the player doesn't want the manager to say for him - he think he should be on more money and his mind is on his career away from football.

It's rude and disrespectful.

Far better to just not answer the questions beyond general platitudes...

(sorry gone a bit off topic from Vale rumours there)

Spot on Rob. Sorry for going off topic.

I was just comparing how we announced Rory Holden and how Barton has basically told everyone(other than figures) Rodman's situation.

We've quoted no details about Holden's contract

Barton has hinted at retirement for Rodman. Don't wash your dirty laundry in public. Some things don't need to be made public

Come on read between the lines of the statement. We won’t have offered him much. He needs us more than we need him. Win win.

On the subject of Barton. Rightly or wrongly everyone would be frustrated about a player not playing for so long. Whether he should air publicly it is up for debate, every manager is different. But look at it this way, if we were in the same situation with a player out for so long, and on the face of it possibly highly paid given his experience, we’d be crying out for information. If Clarke came out and clarified where he stands like that we’d be applauding him for letting us know.

Would we? I wouldn't. If I was a footballer in their situation I'd be happy to be offered a deal but I wouldn't appreciate my boss telling everyone about it.

Clarke has told us what we need to know...Holden has a deal...that's all...anything else should be between the player and the club IMO

Re Barton, one of the mods from a Bristol Rovers messageboard PM'd me this.

Quote

the Football Club has become an embarrassment. Not seen a ball kicked since Feb 22nd 2021 when we hired that thug as manager.
He is a delusional, violent, publicity hungry, pseudo intellectual. He lacks both dignity and respect. He is a narcissist. He shows no remorse for his long list of violent acts and never ever take the blame.
Typical scouser. Always the victim, it's never his fault. He is self-obsessed. He has obvious anger management issues. He is an intimidating, nasty, bully.
I am not alone in my feelings. There's around 20-25 people on this (admittedly small) Forum who refuse to attend games while Barton is in charge. Some still buy Season Tickets though. I reckon somewhere between 500-1000 supporters feel the same as me (almost impossible to gauge, I admit). So the Club has lost some people with principals, and picked up a few stone island clad yobs attracted to Barton.
I don't give a s**t that we were promoted under this thug - we're back where we were when he was appointed.
A lot of 'good' people have left the Forum and severed their ties with the Club because they don't want to be associated with it.
So I thought I would leave you with this rant to balance out the Barton Fan Club that adore this piece of s**t.

Good luck to the Vale. You have a fantastic manager and an equally fantastic owner. I remember Vale not disputing the EFL in the PPG season where they were the only Club to lose out. Respect.
Must be wonderful to be proud of your Football Club.
Proud to be a Gashead? No sickened.
If you're really bored there is a very long Thread "Joey Barton is unfit to manage Bristol Rovers".
Next Court date for Barton is Oct 31st for "allegedly grabbing his wife by the throat, throwing her to the floor, and kicking her in the face".

I think that's a question of your standpoint. If Clarke made some of the statements Barton has made I would be pretty upset personally. I don't think it's clarification, it's effectively trying to force a player out and presumably does nothing for the dressing room harmony.

No I don’t mean Holden. I mean hypothetically, if we were in that situation with a player that hasn’t played for so long we’d be crying out for some info / clarity.

I think there's info... and there's too much info!

We basically have Holden in handcuffs, he knows he isn’t going to get anywhere else given his injury and we’ve taken advantage of it with (I guess) a low wage. If he gets fit we’re on to a winner, if not then no harm done and probably not a massive dent in the budget.

I think the opposite would be true. Fans would at least know what the situation is, we often moan about lack of info regarding missing players for a short while let alone a whole year. I don’t think for one minute what he’s said in public isn’t what’s already been said to a player privately  anyway. Clubs will use any means to force a player out.

That’s a good question. I have no idea what happens if a player gets a bad injury. Is he still covered for it in the future? I know my dog isn’t 🤣
