Where is the money

Iron Curtain

Recommended Posts

£600k from the first Hugill instalment

£250k for Alnwick

£100k for Grant

£100k from Man City for a young player (not the recent one)

That’s £1,050,000 before any fees paid by bidders to see the figures (another 200k??)

Where has the money gone?

It’s certainly not on the playing squad, or the match experience.

Add the guaranteed 1.2m that will be coming in the next year from Hugill.

Has any of this money been used to pay of our debt to Norm, which would reduce his asking price and therefore get rid of him? Or are we in a situation where he's using the money and not counting it as a repayment of his directors loan?

We've been shafted by Norm's property portfolio. Serious questions need to be asked as to where these funds are being directed. If they're not being used for the good of Port Vale Football Club, can anyone defend the man?

I agree with the original post and other replies. And I want Smurf gone sharpish for the good of the club.

However if the post is a dig at investment in the team I'd say it is a bit off the mark.

Take a look at Notts County now managerless for proof money doesn't buy success.

I'd argue a team with

Brown, Legge, Smith, Worrall, Joyce, Pope , Miller .....that's 7 players off top of my head , should be doing far far better than they are. Most of the above will be on a decent whack at this level.

Chucking money at this is no guarantee of anything.

We all know the rhetoric from the blue one will be that the money has been used to keep the club afloat and pay the bills.

Unfortunately until someone who ticks all of HIS boxes ( pie in the sky ) then he will remain in charge and we will amble along.

No doubt whatsoever that the money is crucial to be reinvested in the team but as I say above just the 7 names I gave ought to be faring way better.....over to you Aspin

Agree with this and I certainly don’t think that “throwing money” at the squad is the right answer.

I do however think that there hasn’t been enough of the incomings from transfer dealings going into the squad.

An assumption (which may be wrong) of Ricky miller costing £50k means around 5% has been reinvested in buying players.

Norman says that he won’t invest any more on the wages than the club generates.

A more sensible investment strategy into a higher wage budget may have lead to us getting better than Quigley and Daniels as back up. Let’s face it our hopes are now that an injury prone lad from Stevenage can be the attacking link in midfield.

So, the question is... where has that money gone?

When the accounts are finally released, (which he will resist for as long as possible and pay the fine for not doing on time) we could well see a reduction in his directors loans meaning his ridiculous valuation may go down.... or we might not which would lead to LOTS of questions, because it certainly hasn’t gone into the ground or the squad.

At a guess it’s going on general running costs.

We were losing what, £80k a month, give or take, so it’s just being swallowed up by that. Little by little.

And we’ve brought Nuneatons ground as well, Dunna forget.

That’s the sort of nonsense Smurf was peddling at the EGM he called last season. 80k a month? Shows what an awful business Smurf is if he can lose that month per month on a football team with average wages of a mere £990 a week per player and the to date 7th highest gates in the division.

We would have more but the product is crap to watch and the matchday experience does not reflect an 80k a month loss at the club.

So what does reflect the loss?

Possibly awful vanity projects like plans for pubs, buying grounds at one of the few clubs worse run than ours and paying for other buffoon level decisions make by him is not value for money.

Smurfwaite keeps saying he is paying for this. It simply isn’t true because as Starve Em Out proved, we ultimately pay to run this club and without our money the club would sink.

He is losing the club 80k per month and we will ultimately foot the bill with the biggest charge being years of crap, barrell scraping football in the lower echelons of the football pyramid.

It was part meant in jest, hence the Nuneaton comment, however now you mention it: average was of just shy of £1k. How many players last season, 35? So £35k a week, £140k a month, just shy of £1.7m a year on player wages. Give or take. On gates of around 4000.

I can very well believe that Port Vale FC is losing large amounts per month. That doesn’t mean that Norman Smurthwaite is.

Last season we made a profit. Source, the accounts.

We may have made an annual profit, when taking into account the Hugil money and potential buyers for some daft reason throwing 50k a time just to see the books. Doesn’t mean at all that we run on a monthly profit.

I have also noticed that the ************ has not been on our beloved Radio Stoke recently pleading how his club are costing him a fortune to run and he his losing thousands. It's amazing when you are reaping it and keep stum.
