No Open Day this summer

I agree with the last line but not the rest of it.

Where are all these other clubs that are organising open days? There would be a cost because there would have to be staff present to steward and show people around. And for what? So you can see the new coat of paint on the dressing room wall?

I don't even go to friendlies - glorified training sessions that would be just as well undertaken behind closed doors in my opinion - but if you want an extra fix of Vale outside the playing season that's where to get it, not in some costly and pointless PR exercise.

There's 4, it took about 30 seconds to find them.

In any case, what the hell has it got to do with other clubs? Why don't we actually dream something up for ourselves - isn't that what marketing staff should be doing as a matter of course?

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, but we simply NEVER do!

I remember going to one when I was about 9 - got my shirt signed by the likes of Billy Paynter, Sam Collins, Mark Goodlad et al - one of my fondest memories as a Vale fan, meeting my heroes. Pretty sure there were tours around the ground going on and an open training session.

Dead good for younger fans in particular.

This is what they are all about, the kids, not the miserable cynical parents.

Staff costs would be minimal because in the past, these events have relied heavily on the Volunteers Group.

Think that the club should organise one quickly, we could do with some rain.

I think that the last one we had I managed to get sunstroke having burnt my head manning the darts stand:angry: glorious weather just like we have at the moment. 'twas a good day loads of kids came along, bought shirts and other merch, met the players, guided tours, didn't we have some sort of penalty shootout thing and lots of stuff to do. Other organisations came along such and the fire brigade promoting themselves. It seemed to be a great success.

It promoted the club, gave a bit of good publicity and no doubt they made some money in the club shop. Don't see a down side at all to having one.

When would be the best day? A weekend or in the week during the holidays? Best time before STs went up in price. Maybe it will be tried next season? How much preparation/commitment is required?

I believe a lot of effort and research went into putting one on but it was knocked back by the chairman. You would think the CEO would make that decision but that's seemingly not the case.

The push for season-ticket sales should have been a piece of cake this year with Aspo & Rudgy at the helm, most of the dead wood gone, some decent signings and us now being one division closer to Stoke Pity. What did we get...nothing.

If anyone still thinks things are OK under this ********, it's time to wake up. Better late than never.

Much as I think Vale would be better off with someone else holding the purse strings, the resources needed to be spent in putting on a worthwhile open day would be far better spent on the field of play. Let's make the side successful first, let's win promotion, let's bring in more cash, then and only then should we be thinking about this sort of PR.

Let MKD et al do what they want but leave Vale to finish the rebuilding job and bring in the success; then maybe it'll be time to push the boat out. But not yet.

We'd make some money through merchandise sales and other stuff, and the intangible value of goodwill would be built up.

Never mind, let's think small and stay small.

I think they are a great idea and should be held every 2/3 years.

Kids love it, get some activities on for them and tour of the ground bar open, BBQ on and get some money in the club from clubshop sales.

Its a no brainer but once again seems like no one can be arsed organise it. When you see how badly the ticket office is run and other things you can see why they dont (want) do it.

Incorrect... People within the club tried to organise one but the chairman knocked it back.

How the hell did we end up with this character as our chairman?

How the **** is running an open day for kids pushing the boat out?

We've done it for years.

******* christ.

I'll leave aside your blasphemy - I'm a practising Christian and I find it offensive and unnecessary - but, as I said earlier, there's a cost attached whether you like it or not. As I also said earlier I'd sooner the money to be spent on things that matter. That's positively my last word on this; if you want to continue to fulminate about what amounts to trivia that's up to you.

I wonder if Smurf has the same short term return mindset you seem to have.

The long term building of Vale matters... it matters a lot.
