You're right about the Hopper speculation. Him going to Saarfend suggests to me we weren't prepared to pay what he wanted, whatever that was, which is why he dropped off the radar.

 

Southend are a league above us and pay higher wages than us, it’s not case if we weren’t prepared to pay the going rate if that’s the case, we weren’t prepared to pay L1 wages when we finished 20th in L2 and have average gates of about 4K. Let’s be realistic we can’t compete with southern based L1 clubs for wages at the moment in time. That’s realistic not penny pinching

Problem is we haven't got any midfielders with any sort of goal scoring record - Kay, Joyce, Oyeleke hardly score any not to mention Tonge and Pugh!

 

Exactly. For all that Worrall & Hannant are decent players they don't have many goals in them, so its disappointing to read reports of just 2 more signings (both to be strikers), followed by kids on loan, when we're still lacking creativity and goalscoring support from midfield.

 

Other than Pope there are hardly any goals in the squad as it currently stands, which is why its vital that the next 2 signings have proven Football League goals behind them - just as Aspin has been stressing for a few months now that we desperately need.....let's see if he's able to bring them in, and in time for the start of pre-season in 12 days, again as Aspin has stated that's what he wants to happen.

Who said anything about penny pinching? I was confirming to an earlier question regarding Hopper and as he's joined Southend and not us it is most likely they made him an offer that matched his expectations. For all I know we might not have made him any offer at all but at the end of the day players sign for whoever makes the best offer. If we paid enough Ronaldo would sign for us, that's why big name players swan off to China these days.

Anyway, why are you so arrogant in your posting? Is it an affliction of nature or do you practice it?

BTW not being prepared to pay what someone wants does not constitute penny pinching, the club will have a budget and should stick to it. Kristian Dennis was a case in point.

Whilst not been his biggest fan, if we could get Louis Dodds at the right wage, surly it’s a no brainier. Would improve the squad. Scores goals & is creative. All 3 of which we lack
