Good job you didn’t name the manager or else he might get a letter from the FA. About time they tried to clean up the game and stop players diving, time-wasting, flashing cards, feigning injury. I could keep them busy for years and save them the embarrassment of having to send out stupid texts to the fine owner of Stanley.

Well done to Stanley on their promotion. It is heartening that a small club can achieve this. If their budget is £15K per week then it is even more credit to them. There are clear business lessons here that we could seek to replicate and develop. However, as a proper football fan it is good to see a proper football club achieve a promotion against all the odds.

Let's allow Accrington to bask in their glory right now. Too often in football we do not appreciate what is there at the time it is there. Of course next season may see a reversal of Accrington's fortunes. However, that is for next season. Right here, right now, they have won promotion, are on target to win the championship of this league and have shown remarkable and continued progress since they were reformed 50 years ago. There is a strong chance next season that they will be playing Sunderland, and one from Barnsley, Birmingham or Bolton in a league game. Although it is unlikely, it is not beyond possibility for them to also be playing close rivals Blackburn in a league game. Let's not be churlish, we should allow them their moment. They do not have a sugar daddy to bank roll them (unlike Forest Green Rovers). Many people would say that they are from the town with the second smallest population (after Nailsworth which is a bit artificial because of their bank rolling) to occupy a place in the football league. Interestingly, the combined population of Burslem and Tunstall (Port Vale heartland) is less than that of Accrington. Maybe we could lay claim to the small population bit then :). Anyway, let's leave Accrington Stanley to just be...
