Really? He earned more in a year than both of you have earned in a lifetime? Really

How long have you been working?

Lee Hughes as had a decent career in football and no doubt made a considerable amount of money, if he's foolishly frittered it away why should anybody feel sorry for him??

That stat on an earlier page about how many ex- players wind up bankrupt - depressing if true.

It’s unreasonable to expect all players to magically acquire financial planning expertise. Sure. EPL players probably have 1) much more money and 2) wealth managers to guide them whereas your jobbing footballers are by and large on their own and have to learn from their mistakes.

Presumably I’m wrong but I *thought* quite a chunk of players’ wages went into a pension fund which they could access at 35 years of age. Though I suppose there’s nothing to stop players borrowing against their future pension.

Sad.

It's a similar pattern to music & TV stars when they become famous, especially when younger. They get caught up in the lifestyle and can't quit it even when they don't work as much. Plenty of examples around of this.

The PFA should provide better guidance and support to footballers. There's a wealth of experience. In fact here is a news report from 2013.
