Brexit again...

The odd thing was that before we had the referendum the EU was I think 8th or 9th on voters' priorities and not a major issue really. It came miles behind concerns for health, education, crime, homelessness, housing, etc.

But I suppose the far right have been hankering for a fight ever since the nineties and all of a sudden it's become blown out of all proportion.

Very few people were talking about the EU three years ago. Immigration perhaps but not a lot else.

Jezza has wanted to leave since the 70s..... I wouldn't class him as far right or a Tory.... I'd struggle to class him a moderate.... people didn't talk much about it because it wasn't an option... apart from the waste, food mountains and the corruption it was never on the agenda and was never seen as a vote catcher.... 2 parties arguing with each other was the order of business.

Well UKIP got over 26% of the vote in the 2014 EU elections and 16% in 2004.

Significant numbers.

Very strange to try and pin this on the far right but I suppose you are all obsessed with everything left of Corbyn being the far right nowadays.

The brexit party are polling 30%....... the deal will be done soon.

What about the 70% that cant stand him?

They need to get out of the house and vote for somebody else then.

They'll suddenly come up with a fudge to solve Brexit

We'll end up in a customs union and it will be a BRINO.

They want to avoid a Brexit Party at any cost.

Not if the conditions of the confirmation referendum say that it is the last referendum ever to be held until the voting system in the UK has been changed and the Lords abolished.

Bit harsh on the Lords. They've often been the voice of sanity in an unhinged Brexit debate.

Consult the tactical Vote web site to show Farage he is a one trick pony.

Maybe so. Experienced politicians, with no whip and/or personal ambitions to worry about, often say it as it is.

But it amazes me how some of the anti-EU comments on her have focused on "unelected dictators" or words to that effect yet are quite happy to have an Executive that can do what it wants with as little as 40% of the popular vote, an unelected second chamber and a monarchy. Amazing selectivity.

They serve an important purpose.

Would anyone trust Parliament without the security of the Lords?

I wouldn't.

So we need the Lords to block the actions of our democratically elected representatives? How is that democratic? worse than being in the EU.

Who else can put a halt to the loony politics of governments with a huge majority?

They don't do it often enough but they do it....... sadly even if they were elected it would still be a two party argy bargy..... across the two houses perhaps.

The monarchy has very little political power....... they could technically refuse to do something but when was the last time that was exercised?

If you don't win you lose...... it doesn't matter how big you lose.

In a PR system who decides which MP represents which constituency?...... or do they get lost in the shuffle?

The Lords cannot stop a government with a huge majority, the only people to stop loony politics are the voters ignoring the media.
