FAO Houston Valiant

Once again , thanks for all the good wishes. Early morning here now and one more day of rain, although not as heavy, and it's to stop tonight.

The water is outside our garage door and not far from the front door.

Today may be the day we evacuate. We have a friend who is unaffected by the floods. So we have a place to go. Boats are coming through the neighbourhood regularly during the day , and even at night, so we can get into one and go to a holding area. We have 2 little dogs as well. So that's our present situation as of 7am here. Talked to Tone last night , and he's in constant touch. Rainfall totals for the greater Houston area range from 20 to 43 inches. 4 rivers have burst their banks, 2 of them are big rivers, the Brazos being one. 3 hospitals in Houston evacuated. Water is covering the roofs of 18 wheeler trucks. And now Harvey is heading to Louisiana. That's going to be bad as well.

Sorry for the long winded post, my adrenalin has been going strong for 4 days now, so it's nice to sit down for a min

and post an update. All the best for now.

Up the Vale

Nice thought, Jacko.

I'm sure we all endorse your best wishes.

U and whacko Jacko need to watch proper news outlets and see how the American military are deliberately creating floods by doing things to overfill dams near Houston even tho they no it will cause further damage and chaos to local homes - it could only happen in America ! But summT similar happened in Cumbria a few years ago when most of Yorkshire was under several feet of flood water

You clearly don't have a clue and, like so many, just want to point fingers. The "military" you refer to is the Corp of Engineers (Sappers to you and me). They KNOW what they are doing. You don't.

Sean and his wife have finally had to leave their neighbourhood. The Coast Guard chopper flew over their house, so they knew it was time then. They waded a short distance to a National Guard truck that took them out . They are at a friend's house now, so safe anyway.

Good to hear that they are both safe, Tone. Keep us posted.

We got out safely , as Tone said. We were taken to a holding area where local people were very kind in taking evacuees to different areas of shelter. A friend collected

us and we had a bit of rest . Then the sun came out. Strange to be saying that about Houston. With brisk winds and sunshine, hopefully our house won't be too bad, and the water will go down quicker.

Much as we hated to hear it , the Corps of Engineers said they had to release more water this afternoon. Thanks

Can only happen in America but it also happened in Cumbria; which at the time was in Yorkshire????
