Port Vale loan Adam Yates to Macclesfield Town

Recommended Posts

Port Vale have confirmed that Adam Yates has joined Macclesfield Town on loan. The right-hand is the club’s longest serving player and agreed a new contract this week. However after missing all of last season through injury this move seems to be an attempt to give the player match fitness.

Genuinely not having a dig at him, but I've thought for a while that he'd be suited to Macc Town (and it probably suits him as its very close and he won't have to re-locate).

This makes the decision to offer him a new contract slightly strange as surely he's now on loan until January, at least. What length contract did he sign at Vale the other day? (reminds me of the other year when we retained Sam Johnson on a 12 month contract then loaned him out for the entire season, and then just released him anyway).

Seems like Vale are hoping he'll get games and fitness over the first half of the season, and then, if required, bring him back into the squad for the second half of the season, from January onwards.

I am with most of the posters here. Adam Yates when fully fit is a great member of the squad. When injuries and suspension kick in later in the season we will be very pleased to see him provide cover. It is clear that behind the scenes he is held in very high regard and will contribute greatly to team spirit. Meanwhile Macc Town have use of his experience and hopefully they will do well with Adam making a good contribution for them. This is a good move all round and is evidence that Michael Brown is a thinking manager who is not focussing on short term knee jerk reactions and who is planning for the whole length of the season and setting us up to meet the hard times that Winter will bring us.

I also think that Brown seemed to despair of the spirit in the dressing room last seaon and wants ot pack it with players who he can trust and won't split off in to factions. I think having Yates around the place can only be a positive for team spirit.

So if what you is say is true, why send him out on loan ? How does he help team spirit at Vale when playing 20 miles away. In my opinion he should have been released. He's a run of the mill full back who's what better days they were, are behind him.
