Lloyd has been released. Not counting Pope's return, Ryan Boot is our longest serving, signing professional in 2013, albeit with 1 appearance. Nathan Smith is 2nd longest, signing 2014. Purkiss signed in 2015.

In terms of appearances, without checking everybody I believe Yates would have the most should he re-sign (almost 250), & then Purkiss in 2nd (80ish).

Who were they then?

The players who have left us;

Foley

Streete

Mbamba

Tavares

Cecilia

Kiko

Kelly

Thomas

Amaros

Johnson

Hooper

Mehmet

I'd say its simple enough to pick out the high earners from that.

Chances are they won't have paid him up his entire length of remaining contract, but a percentage. If this forums still here in 20 years time we'll be looking back on the last year of players that have come and gone as one of the worst eras of recent history.

If they didn't re-sign then it would be Nathan Smith and then Kjell Knopps, who had 0 between them this time last season! I think if we're talking appearances though Pope should be included, ok yeah don't count him on the year's list cuz he has just rejoined after a time away but its weird to say Pope has 0 appearances for the Vale.

Maybe, although we did have some loyal players (obviously not even of the calibre of Alan Tankard) but someone decided to jetison them.

I've spoken to a few people within the game (Some have played for us, some haven't). Most of them said a similar thing. Vale for reasons unexplained is kind of infectious. The ones that have played for us all said it was the 1st club they looked out for when they'd finished playing, even years after they'd left. Some of the ones who hadn't played for us said they had played with players with did the same thing with Vale. That's why you see quite a lot of players settle locally after they finish their careers.

Even when I spoke to Rudgie a few years back, he said that whilst he had a bit of trouble getting people to sign for Vale, it was a nightmare trying to get them to leave!

As long as Mr Smurthwaite hasn't ruined it, we've got quite a nice name in the game and decent players in recent years have stayed for a while. The commotion of the last 2 summers has been sad, but hopefully some stability will make us an attractive proposition yet again.
