As I said how do you know it isn't happening to our soldiers? You don't because we don't get an investigation in to terrorist actions on the war field.

I am absolutely convinced that it is happening to our soldiers..never claimed otherwise. That's not the point..the point is you are saying if we capture a Taliban and we KNOW he has tortured and killed one of ourse nothing should be done to him cos "what happens on the battlefield stays on the battlefield"..if that's to be applied to us then it has to be applied to them

ok, this is going back and forth, it looks as we aren't going to change each others minds... so a serious question, how do we beat the likes of the taliband and isis If we are to fight in a civilised manner?

Who has said we should fight them in civilised manner? War is a savage business, the question is what level of savagery do we find acceptable for 'our' side. Clearly some level is acceptable it's a question of what isn't..some don't believe 'anything goes' cos "that's how the enemy think"

We need to do similar things like years ago in Northern Ireland when someone is identified as a possible terrorist then use our MI 5 agents to take em out like they did with the IRA

Steve, I have been saying this for years. The worst thing now is TV channels like Sky News. They continually raise the topic when they think something aginst 'human rights' has been done and keep throwing it in the public faces.

MI5 working under the rader, out of the media taking these indivuals out is what is needed, and I am sure once word got around amongst the fanatics they would begin to disppear themselves in fright.

I think this is the only way now. But will our cowardly goverment ever approve such a measure?

so we fight in a civilised manner, whilst they burn people to death in cages, mutilate, torture, crucify, starve, behead and completely ignore any pleas for compassion.

doesnt quite seem like a fair fight 2 me

Totally agree, and ever now and then with the Irish "Bloody Sunday" crops up, and another squaddie is investigated, yet all the ira atrocities have been forgotten as there murderers got a amnesty get out of jail chit, so the peace accord could go ahead...

We can all sit behind our keyboards pontificating on the rights and wrongs of the case but until you have actually been there and realised that this could be your last day on this earth and probably seen soldiers that you trained with blown to bits or heard how a mate has been caught and tortured to death then I think you have no real right to comment.

What was it like then OS?

Did I ever say that I was there you trouble making ***** but I do have friends who have been there and they certainly understand why Blackman did what he did. Lets be honest though you don't really want to join in a debate do you? All that you to do is to knock any comment that I post. Don't waste your time lad because I have bigger things on my mind than having a slanging match with the likes of you.

I suspect many possibly most of us can understand but potentially that just makes us all equally as wrong. What he did was very human but lots of understandable human responses to a situation are still wrong.

I just don't get the `its OK cos they do the same/worse` argument.

Could it be a deterrent factor?
